LS engine swap over heating
I got my engine running on my 70 c10. I am using my old radiator and my old fan shroud. I have a fan with clutch on the engine. The engine starts to over heat and water starts to come out of the reservoir. Any ideas on how to solve this issue? I'll post some pics in a bit.

I did only put two gallons...I just added another one because it spilled out of the reservoir. How do you get rid of the air? It drives cool for a few minutes until it starts pushing the water out. Here are some pics.

I told you how.....Remove the upper radiator hose at the radiator, Fill the engine through upper hose.

Other possible causes include a bad thermostat or water pump.
Also, check your tranny fluid if you're running an auto with the cooler through the radiator. Your radiator may be clogged up with debris if it is really old...look at the fluid, is it already dirty? Did you flush out the block before you hooked everything up? Your radiator cap looks new but that could be an issue. And, of course, there could be head gasket issues... I'm sure there's more I didn't mention.

I had the radiator pressure tested and flushed. The fluid still looks clean. I am running a transmission cooler. I did replace the thermostat. I checked the engine oil to see if I have antifreeze in there and checking for white smoke. I have not replaced the water pump, yet. I did add about a gallon of fluid into to the block via the upper radiator, topped off the radiator. It ran a bit cooler. I drove it around, and the overflow container got full and spilled some antifreeze, but the fluid wasn't boiling like before. I am hoping it was just pushing the excess water out. I will try it again to see if it happens again. |
