New Truck is Gutless
Bought a 77 K10 with a 4 speed yesterday. Really like it but my issue is it is utterly gutless. The little history I have behind it is the motor was replaced last year with a smog passing 350 and a smoggable edelbrock carb. I haven't worked on a gas motor in a few years and know that deleting the smog crap on my diesels was easy. I don't need to worry about smog as the truck will be registered in a state where it isn't required. Any help is appreciated. I searched and wasn't able to find a walkthrough on deleting the smog crap....I know my answer is to throw a non smog 454 in but that's not feasible right now lol

Re: New Truck is Gutless
I think 4.10s...truck has the trailer special package on it. It is a 77 Silverado 4x4 on a 6" lift and 33s

Re: New Truck is Gutless
Not to hard to do, just remove the lines that you don't want and plug everything else you have a vacuum leak. If you have a EGR intake might look into a new aluminum one or a block off plate.
All that aside, I wouldn't think that the emissions are that bad to suck up that much power. I took off my emissions and it did run better, but it wasn't a big noticeable different. Gearing might be killing you, but big wheels take a lot of power to get moving as well.

Re: New Truck is Gutless
That's a good point. I'll get started on that...have a CARB approved Edelbrock carburetor with electric choke..looks similar to a 1406...anything necessary to do to that? I also plan on headers/exhaust to totally get rid of that crap. Also anyone have a good how to on tuning a carb so it's not so rich and reeking like fuel?

Re: New Truck is Gutless
I would be willing to bet the engine has a tad larger than stock cam. Alot of people install those and forget, that if you set the timing to the factory specs on the sticker under the hood, it is a power loss for sure. The timing on an aftermarket cam is usually a bit highter BTDC, than factory. Try bumping up the timing and see if she grows a pair.
