push button start?
How hard would it be to switch my truck to a push button start? I think it would be a unique feature that not many people have.

Re: push button start?
basically you could run a toggle to get power to the distributor then a pushutton between the two leads on the starter that engage it.. its not hard at all.. the thing is without having a chip key or any real security on it youre opening up your truck to get stolen by virtually anyone who knows about your setup.. its not a good idea.. yeah its too easy to pop the ignition on them as they came from the factory but in doing this youve opened up auto theft to anybody

Re: push button start?
I have a button on both my '74 Chevelle and my '63 Grand Prix. I added the switch to address hot start issues, which it seems to have taken care of.
It's essentially a "bump switch" (Moroso brand) wired to power and to the starter solenoid. I still have to move the ignition key to the "On" position but then push the switch to turn the engine over. In both cases I mounted the switch inside the ashtray, in the location where the cigarette lighter used to be. K

Re: push button start?
Have you looked at http://www.ididitinc.com/accessory_p...o_keyless.html that is a push button but with out the key fab in your pocket it won't start so it is as safe as a key.

Re: push button start?
A lot of the push button start kits I've looked at run around $100. Not too bad. I'm not sure about the cost of the ididit kit though since it has fobs.

Re: push button start?
I just went and bought a button starter or a trigger gun for when working on the motor so I didn't have to go inside and turn the key everytime, I took that, cut and put on new connectors, ran wires behind wirewall, hooked up to the starter and put the trigger in the former ashtray. so now I just turn the key to the on position, pull the trigger and it fires up. Not so complicated haha

Re: push button start?
Some of the older trucks came with a foot switch. Maybe you can get the on/off column switch from a catalog and put a starter button wherever you choose.
I think this is it: http://www.classicparts.com/1947-59-...ctinfo/53-440/ Last edited by arturo7; 10-01-2012 at 02:37 PM. Reason: grammar |

Re: push button start?
It would be slick if there was a way to delete the ignition on the column and make it smooth.

Re: push button start?
Summit Racing has them priced from $570.00 to $651.00 for a painless wiring set up.

In a square I would think its doable. Maybe a 70's GM van collum with no key cyl. On it. Offcourse you might as well do an impala dash, and oh well so much for simple Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: push button start?
If you guys want a laugh i seen a 50s ford truck that had a switch on the dash and no door locks from the factory like that.I rather have some kinda key fab in my pocket just so its harder to steal then just pushing a button or flipping a switch.
