Steering Column Dissasembly

Not a difficult task by any means, but I have never taken one apart, and I am a little hung up on what seems to be the last part to come out. Are these tabs holding the "sprung" assembly inside the tube? How do get this apart?

Re: Steering Column Dissasembly

I just changed mine on my '62 - it was easy to get to, but the replacement parts, mainly the spring that holds the indicator in place was not up to par. It took a little tweaking to get it to hold correctly. The switch itself is on the outside of the column, close to floor. The replacement worked for about a week. I ended up disassembling the old one, and cleaning/reinstalling it. Works great now. Not as hard to do any of it as I had imagined.

I have only taken the switch out of my donor column so far, three screws, the cancelling cam is attached to the switch from the back of the turn signal switch on mine, couldn't tell you what year my column is from. They do list two different switches for 60-63 or 64, and for 64or 65-66 in the classic parts, LMCe and like catalogs.

TTT
If anyone can help out with my question it would be appreciated. I suspect it is something simple, but I don't want to cause damage that I will need to repair in the process.
Thanks!

Re: Steering Column Dissasembly

I just rebuilt my whole 64 c10 3 speed column and i will post you some pics soon.I think the part you are talking about it just slides out. I had to tap mine with a hammer and block of wood to get it to slide out, thats after you take the complete top of the column apart and the 2 small bolts off the column at the bottom.
