Back on Track with the 61 GMC

I’ve been a little stalled with my truck and haven’t been able to do anything for a while. Between my dad being sick and passing away and my wife bugging me about not getting enough done around the house because of too many projects I haven’t anything to the GMC for a few months. Now I’ve consolidated some things and am getting back into working on the truck. I finally got the A/C in and working yesterday, though I think I’ll need to put a fan in front of the condenser (the high pressure is pretty high with the R134 at idle). I changed out the hood and though it’s not the right color I think it looks a lot better than the rusted one. I’m driving it daily now since I started riding a van pool. I’m trying to get one thing done a week. So, at this rate I should be done with the truck around 1200 weeks from now…. If I live that long….

Re: Back on Track with the 61 GMC

Surf,
Losing parents are always hard, Sorry to hear it.

The A/C mount is that one of the OEM versions or something you rigged up? Also have you though about havign it re-popped a lot of us (esp) on the 60-66 GMC board would buy them.

Just a though.

Re: Back on Track with the 61 GMC

Thanks, things almost back to normal now. I just have to run down to their house every other week (180 miles one way) and try and get it ready for sale. The wife feels that I’m not paying enough attention to the house work so she’s after me to thin out the projects. The bracket and set up is some aftermarket unit that was installed at the dealer in 61. The bracket that mounts to the engine has GMC (may be OEM) stamped on it, or, may be from Frigette. I got the compressor and condenser from Nostalgic Air who had the adapter to go from the York compressor to the rotary type. I’ll have the bracket copied when I strip the engine accessories off and truly detail the block replace the pan gaskets and clean the overspray off the stuff that’s supposed to be bare metal. That should be in a few months when I get ready for paint. Right now I’m trying to finish up on the small mechanical things like heater cable being very hard to work and why the right front wheel has grease on it after driving a while when there is no indication that the seal is bad. And getting the exhaust replaced. Overall the truck is in pretty good shape.

Re: Back on Track with the 61 GMC

My Mom passed 11 years ago now, and my Dad just passed last December. It is a hard thing to go through, my condolences to you and your family. Dealing with the house, that was the hardest thing for me. They are always with us though. Think of him, and quote him often, helps me a lot. My wife frequently laughs when I do or say something just like my Dad. So when they say that they live on after they pass, it is true, the live on within you. Especially if you let them.
