79' Caprice Front suspension.

So I have an off the wall question. Does anybody how similar the front suspension on a 79' Caprice would be to the 79 truck. I know by looking at it the a frames are smaller, but I was wondering if the spindles would fit on my 64'. If they did I could swap the disc brakes over as well. I also was wondering if I could swap the steering box. I know the pump would fit.

My first car is a 79' Caprice I have had since 95'. It is sitting in the driveway rotting away. I have basically rebuilt everything on it and painted it. But that was 12 years ago and is in need of another rebuild. Between the 64' and my Camaro I don't think the Caprice will ever get any attention. I am planning on getting rid of it but wondered if the I could use the steering and brakes on my truck.

Re: 79' Caprice Front suspension.

I think you can, I have a friend that said he lowered his truck using 79 caddy suspension, and I think the cad and caprice are pretty much the same metric chassis.
he had swapped out the a arms and spindles.

years ago I posted a thread to see if anyone had tried this, but got no reply.

Re: 79' Caprice Front suspension.

I believe the rotors and calipers are the same, and possibly the spindles, but I'm not certain on that. You might see if the ball joints are the same as for a C10. The steering box will not work. The Caprice box is on the inside of the frame and the C10 box mounts on the outside. You can use the brake booster and master cylinder. That booster should work with my booster bracket and bolt right up to the firewall.

Re: 79' Caprice Front suspension.

Captain,

So basically on the ball joints I would just need to measure their i.d. and length? Only thing I just thought of is if I use the spindles they are standard and not 2" drop. I was thinking of lowering the truck a little.

At the least I could use the the brake booster, master cylinder, prrportioning valve, and power steering pump. Would save me a little money.

Thanks for the help guys.
