rear end help
I bought a frame off craigslist and have been building the truck around that . I can't figure out what rear end is underneath it. the perches have been welded on and it is bolted up but I need to put new brakes on it to finish the rolling frame.
the axle id I have found show YD 145d except the 145d is upside down from the YD part. it has 12 " inner diameter drums. I need to figure this out so I can move on to the body. |

Is this a C10 or C20? With 12" diameter drums it sounds like a C20 differential. I'm think a few pics might help us help you quicker. If it is a differential someone else has installed it could be most anything.

That is a BOP 10 bolt....Buick,Oldsmobile,Pontiac. Probably a late 60's or 70's vintage. That's about all I can tell about it.

ok a little more info.
codes that I have found on the carrier ND E092 48083 Looking at it from top left from the rear. I researched today and the YD code was 67 tempest 68 tempest 69 firebird 71 big pontiac 74 big pontiac I take the rear cover off today and it looks like it is 11" from od not including flange area. i am assuming that E092 is the date code making it may 09 2? 62? 72? It does not have the perches for links on the top and it doesn't look like they were ground down. I really want to figure this out so I can get some brakes on it to roll it out of the garage. |

did a little more work on it and opened up the rear end. It has c clips so I think that rules out a pontiac. Dimensions are 55" from brake backing plate to plate. 60" to where plate bolts to axle and 65" from stud plate to stud plate. The ring gear (big gear) has 41 teeth. I am planning on puling one of the axles to get some more info. It came with 12" drums. bolt pattern is 5x5 for wheels.
rear end cover is 11" top to bottom from mating surface not including lip and 10 1/2 " scallop to scallop. With 12" drums I am thinking maybe a 8.2 or 8.5 truck? |

Well - it should be an 8.2" B or P axle...however both those axles use bolt-in wheel bearings and do not use a c-clip. You've got some sorta Frankenstein there for sure.

I'm 100% certain that axle does not belong in that chassis...lol....and about the only vehicle that used it in that width woulda been the Olds Vista Cruiser wagon (this would explain the large drum brakes too...). But that still doesn't explain the C-clips. I've worked on several of these style 10-bolts and they all had bolt-in axles like a Ford 9" or a Dana axle.
