tranny problems and questions

i have a 1963 c10 with a 283 sbc and right now i have a granny gear 4 speed, in it and the tranny is out but bellhousing is still in. how do i take out the clutch and flywheel with out damaging both of them.

also i have a turbo 350 that im going to bolt up to the 283. what i wanted to know is , ive heard about to two click think with the torgue converter. i just want to know if that is true or not and if theres any advice about both i would be very greatful

Re: tranny problems and questions

You'll need to block the rear of the engine. Then remove the Bell and rear mounts. I have the same combo. So far as I know this is the easiest way. Suppose you could try removing by taking the lower cover off (flywheeh) then turn the engine by hand to access the bolts.... That seem pretty labor intensive.... Good luck.
I'm not an automatic guy so can't help you there... C

Just start unbolting the pressure plate then flywheel, should not be an issue, before you install auto, slip torgue converter on to trany, rotate it while lightly pushing into trans, you`ll feel the torque converter lock into place, then raise the whole package into place at once, be careful not to let it slide forward on splines and loose its position, bolt trans bell housing into place lightly, then by rotating engine with a prybar against the flexplate to install converter/flexplate bolts ( use a new flexplate they are cheap insurance ) then go back and tighten all bellhousing bolts. Note: flexplate only goes on one way, they are marked as such...!

I don't see why you can't tighten up the bellhousing bolts right away. that way one does not forget. the torque convertor does have room to move forward and rotate freely. if it doesn't there is something wrong.
remember that you have to remove that crossmember
