'69 grill
Finally got the basement project done and garage clutter is out of the way. Pulled the truck in yesterday to get started for the winter(pushed actually, the damn starter went out on me). My grill is riveted in, this wasn't from the factory was it?
I'm going to have to drill them out to remove it but was wondering what I should use to put it back in when I'm done. I really don't want to rivet it back in. I've wrenched on cars on and off for years but never pulled everything off to this level and want to make sure I'm prepared for when things go back together! Thanks. |

My '69 C10 stepside grill is fastened with sextagonal #8 sheet metal screws using the the slide on clips in the hole to receive the screw. I know this to be original issue. As was my '70 C10 stepside. My '53 grills were all steel rivets.

The outer grilles were riveted to the end brackets from the factory. Not pop rivets though. I'm using the stainless rivet screws in this eBay link which are very similar in appearance to the originals for my reassembly. The price is for 25 which is more than you'll need.

Thank you both. Those screws and nuts are more what I'm looking for. Thanks for the rivet info too, they are definitely riveted into the end brackets. I guess GM never thought people would be removing them!
