Assistance on static drop pics/info

Need your help. Can you post you static drop pics/specs (preferably) or point me to some threads you might now of on 73-87 static drops with pics/specs. I have seen a few but nothing specific with this especially on 73-87s. Then again it could be operator error.
I am in the process of lowering my truck 85 1/2 SWB, but I wanted to see what I can expect before I install the front stuff.
I bought a 4" Western Chassis hanger/shackle kit, (installed this past weekend and let me tell you it was a job easy but tedious, but thanks to my 15 yr old son’s help it is done). I think the results of that will be good for the look I was after especially once the front is done.
For the front I got CPP 2.5" spindles and was also contemplating cutting stock springs one full coil, but I think it might be too much or maybe just right compared to the rear thus I wanted to see what it might look like with either or. Also, if I cut the spring, (A) cut from the bottom or top? and (B) will it be ok if I cut only 1/2 of one full coil?
Thanks. I will post pics of the rear drop when I get home.

Re: Assistance on static drop pics/info

thanks for the help guys.

Keith,
how did you find the threads? i looked through 100 pages of the suspensions section, i used the search option with plenty of key words? i knew it was operator error.

here are a few pics to see what you guys think in terms of cutting my coils. i do want a little bit of rake.

Every section has dropped or bagged threads.
Many of them.
I just picked the two with the most threads,... located in the 73-87 section.
Use the search box there.

When you cut your front coils remember:
1/2 coil cut= one inch of drop. (approximately)

I have always cut 1/2 coils.
There is no left or right spring.
They are the same even though you are placing them in left and right a-arms.
I always cut from the bottom.
Then you can still "clock" the upper spring loop in the "D" shaped bracket in the upper spring pocket.

Are your front tires going to clear the fenders after you lower it more?

Looks like they will be close to the fender lip.
(as in too wide or wrong offset wheel)

Re: Assistance on static drop pics/info

What size tire you running on the front, look like a 255/275-60, if you cut the coils your looking at a 2" drop for every complete coil you cut, and yes cut from the bottom, looking at the pictures you tires will rub if you go lower on the front, this is my 83 that was lowered by cutting 2 coils on the front, i'm running 245-60-15's on the front with 15x9 rims. With your 2.5 spindles and cutting 1 coil you should come out with a 4.5 drop on the front, and with a smaller tire you should get the stance your looking for with no rubbing

I think I would install the spindles and take a look at it. I know it seems like a lot of work, but at least then you will have a good idea on where you want it. Besides if you cut the spring and you don't like it, you're only choice is to buy a new set of springs. Good looking truck!

I think i am going to do that with the spindles and see how that comes out. as far as a lot of work, well this will be my first so...i figure it cant be as hard as the rear, removing bed and rivets.

another reason i wanted to cut some of the coils is because i have the lean by about an inch on the drivers side so, we'll see. thanks.

i my truck sat about the same on the rear as your but i think it was lower on the front then again i think the reason is because i have the lean thing going on the driver side. maybe new springs will have to be. i was planning on swaping from side to side and see what results i obtain.

your truck seems to have come down more from the back after you installed the rears. did it. because i was thinking mine might come down more on the rear when i do the spindles, but don know maybe its just the picture angle or higth. thanks for you help.

Yes - It came dowm some after I dropped the front more. I suggest buying 1 or 2 inch drop coils instead of cutting them. $80 well spent - just my 2 cents

what brand did you buy? how do you like them, is the ride more stiff or same?

i thought about that especially for my lean issue. i wonder if new ones might correct it. thanks.

Re: Assistance on static drop pics/info

I have a 5/6 drop on 8" ralleys with a flip kit (all western chassis parts). The front consist of 2.5 drop spindles and 2.5 drop coils. Since evevy cut coil gives you 2 inches. I would suggest starting with half a coil (1" added drop to you 2.5" spindles), and see how it sits. If you're still not satisfied with the stance, chop another half coil which gives you the full 2" drop on you 2.5 spindles leaving you with 4.5 in the front. Any additional lowering(Unlikely)- I would reccomend buying drop coils for ride quality.

Is installing a flip kit as easy ad it looks. I opened the box I got this morning and there's nothing to it. Also what about installing drop coils, how do I go about that?
