47-53 dash grille
I've seen a number of the dash speaker grilles on these trucks that are stainless, chrome or stainless/paint (which is what I'm aiming for) but wheres everyone getting them?!(besides getting them chromed) I know my 53 came with a painted one so did any year come with stainless ones like the glovebox door? I also have a reproduction one laying around and I was told if I take the paint off it might be polishable stainless underneath. Any truth to this? Thanks

You might try the back side or up on top or down on bottom where the strips cover it. That could be one brand of aftermarket too and not universal.

Re: 47-53 dash grille
There are several companies that supply them. They all come part SS and part painted. I bought mine from Brothers. The easiest way to determine if they are SS is to rub some of the paint off and put some water on the spot. If it forms rust then you know for suire it is not SS. If it is pure SS a magnet will not attract it.

Re: 47-53 dash grille
This is not a good picture but I purchased a new speaker grill(had to)and painted the center section black. The stainless strips come off because they are strips of trim. I then had some stainless mesh that I put behind the grill opening to give it a bit of stainless look in the middle. It looks better in person.

Re: 47-53 dash grille
Thanks for the replies I hadn't thought of the magnet idea which is a good idea so I'll have to give that a try. I mainly want the raised ribs to be polished so I can paint the recessed ones to match my gauges. When I get it done I'll post up some pics.
