Coil over set up

Anybody have a few pics of a rear end set up with coil over shocks instead of coil springs.Thinking about running with Porterbuilt tubular trailing arms and using a coil over shock set up on my 66 step side.Would like to have it as low as i can go, but static drop instead of bags.Truck should see some track time and i think this would work well street or strip.Thoughts?

Re: Coil over set up

I am doing something similar. Its a modified Porterbuilt trailing arm . The chassis guy will make the upper shock crossmember , and I have Nates C-Notch. I think the shocks will mount on the trailing arm themselves instead of a lower bar between the trailing arms. I still have to take the stock rear suspension out , and mock up what I switching to. Next weekend I should have a better idea. It will be a bolt in U bolt rear end with some additional support to try to eliminate stress on the U-bolt itself. I may go with a bigger heim or bushing in the front also. The shock that I am using is the longest Koni that Lamb builds I think its 17". I have pics of the trailing arms with out the top bar . The black rear end is kind of the same idea with the upper bar.

Re: Coil over set up

I modified my porterbuilt arms to mount coilovers to them.

Re: Coil over set up

Looks nice, thinking the the same setup with porterbuilt cross member and arms.Need to keep the coil overs inside the frame rails to get max tire size.!!

Not on a frame that was originally a 4x4

There's more room since the frame doesn't kick out like on a 2wd. Still a good amount of tire clearance. Unless you're tubbing it I guess...

Mine is being built more for going fast, AND turning, so this is the setup I chose.

This is how it looked using the porterbuilt mounts. Probably how I would have left it if I was building a straight-line truck. I'm willing to part with the upper porterbuilt bar if anyone is interested. It interlocks real nice with their c-notch.
