6.0 swap

Ok here is another thread by me!

Just completed disk brake swap and have decided to to a engine swap to a 06' 6.0. I am looking for parts to make this easy and less work. So here is what's needed if someone could point me in the right inexpensive way I'd appreciate it greatly!!

Harness and ECM will go to Jim's performance unless there is someone else on the board that can do that part.

I want to run my 400 tranny since I just put $800 in to it....so is there anyone who builds torque converters to go from 1st gen tranny to 3rd gen engine?

Motor mounts....open to all suggestions

Fuel pump and regulator.... Open to all suggestions

A/C I won't to upgrade system and use the compressor off of the 06' model, I was thinking old air made a kit to do that?

Electric fan...again want to get the best bang for the buck

Power steering...I would like to tie the new pump into my current box

I think there is like a $45 adapter ring to from GM performance products to run an older trans. Didn't need it for my swap but look into it. Also make sure your PCM is programmed for the right VSS speed signal for your transmission, the newer engines expect a higher resolution signal.
You need a higher pressure fuel pump, too. 60 ps for the 6.0

'99 C5 and up regulator will handle your pressure needs. Just put a 6.0 in my 84 C10 using dirty dingo mounts and the stock TH350. Because my LQ4 is older (99-00) it has a longer crank shaft, so I only had to drill the flexplate to accommodate the TH350 converter. I am stumbling over the fuel issue now. Not sure what year truck you have but with my model you have the option of going to an '87 tank with intank pump. I already had an external Walboro 255lph pump, so I simply attached high pressure hose to the 3/8" supply side and drilled out the vent for a -6 bulkhead fitting for the return (not even close to the ideal way). Also using high pressure hose (350psi) for my lines. When I get the money, I will go with a newer tank for the turbo.

Got harness off and sent to be shortened, new fuse and relay box installed as well as having CPU flashed. Waiting on parts for swap time to clean an dress engine up!

You don't need the expensive flexplate, there are 2 adapters, the GM one mentioned above which bolts onto the crank snout with the flexplate holes and the Hughes Performance one which just presses on to the snout. Either way, the goal is to extend the bearing surface to the torque converter somewhere close to .4 inchs. You can use the stock converter, make sure you have the "dished" flexplate that is common to 5.3's and you will have to waller the holes to the outside a bit to make it mate to the converter.

Less than $50 will get you there.

If I can find the gm part number I will check it out and see if I can't save some coin

If the 6.0 had a 4l80e behind it then you don't need anything to bolt up the older tranny. The flexplate on mine lined up perfectly to the th350. Once agin if your flexplate is flat then you are good.

I bought a spacer and bolts for my 6.0 swap and when I went to put it on it already had one, duuuuhh! U mite check urs to see if it doesn't already have one, I'm not sure but I think 03 was the last year they had them but not sure

Kick downs are hard to mount to DBW applications, however the 400 turbo is one of the easiest since it doesn't use a cable to the trans. 400's just use a switch to supply 12v when the accelerator is pushed to a set point. That said, you should be able to fabricate a bracket to mount a switch directly to the gas pedal, similar to the way they were on '71-'72's.

I was thinking i seen a Lokar made kick down for the 400, i will have to look into what your saying first....Thanks!

I think the Lokar one is a switch hooked to a cable, made for people runnung a carb that don't want an ugly switch mounted on their intake. Your turbo 400 should have one wire for the kick down, applying power to it will force it into a lower gear.

There's a fitting in the back of the intake for power brakes, but most LQ4's came with hydroboost so it will have a plug. You can replace it with the nipple, they're only a couple bucks at the dealer. Also there are vacuum ports on the side of the intake for small hoses. You have to break off the little tab on the end to use them.
