6 to 8 swap question
I am putting a 350 in place of the 230 6 cyl in my 65 gmc. Can I use the factory mounts or do I need to use the mounts from an 8 cyl? I have the motor mounts and frame brackets from the 1985 truck the engine came from too.

Re: 6 to 8 swap question
My HEI barely cleared the firewall, but it worked. However, when I went to tall valve covers they would hit the firewall when the engine moved side to side. It slowly dented the firewall and kept the valve covers from sealing. I moved my engine forward just to give me a little more room on the distributor, but mostly because I wanted tall valve covers without hitting the firewall.

Kgmunro, I apologize to you, the original poster, for maybe having misled you. It was definitely not on purpose. Had my assumptions above been verified, the forward relocation would more nearly have been a proper consideration. Good luck to you and here's hoping you enjoy every phase of the upgrading. If this your first, you have untold joys and self-satisfactions ahead. If not, you already know how fulfilling this good work can be. sam |
