1950 GMC clock
I have done searches here and other sites but could not find information on the clock that was in my truck. I can wind it to set it but there either was no wire attached or someone removed it. I have not taken it apart. Was this an option or did it come stock?

That has to be somewhere in the league with rooster teeth for being rare. Have you got a photo of it in the dash?
If there is a separate "wind" knob it may be a mechanical clock.

Wow, that is cool. Well Id set the time on that baby and put 6V to it and see what happens.
Id probably do it on a bench with a power supply or a battery first.

I keep an old clock link and did not see this clock.
You need to check the GMC web site - www.oldgmctrucks.com - the guy that runs the site or someone would know if it was an option or not. The earliest factory clock I've seen in GM trucks is 1954. |

I posted a question on oldgmctruck website and
Will update this thread. When I removed the clock From the dash it looked like the radio delete plate Had been cut in the middle to fit the clock. But the Faceplate over the clock seemed to match the dash Perfectly as to curve and paint color. Posted via Mobile Device |

That's a wind up clock, power would go for a light only. A friend of mine has a similar clock in his 51 Delivery. The clock is removed, you wind her up and set it back in the dash. My friend's keeps very good time.

I can turn the nob and set the time but it does not seem to wind up or seem to be
able to, but I may be wrong. Perhaps the bottom flange sticking out of the bottom is for the light bulb. I appreciate the information as I am curious. Regardless, I am having the dash smoothed and painted and I do not need this clock and will probably try to sell it in the proper forum. |

Virtually all old car clocks were electrically wound, and I think the electrical connections on the back are for that, not the light. The winding mechanism was what usually stopped working first, not the actual clock works. Here's an article that might help id you want to try to fix it. The more common fix now is to have it converted using a quartz movement.

Well I took it apart and cleaned the inside with cleaner lubricant and it works.
I put 6 volts to it and it ticks away. Seems to keep accurate time. |
