New 60-66 owner here
Been looking for a new project for awhile. Something old and a little ratty that I can get in and drive and not have to worry about. This is tough for me since everything I bring home tends to turn into a body off resto. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Most recently I had a nice mid 12 second S-10 for my weekend cruiser. I got sick of that and really wanted something old. My wife and I both really like the 60-66 trucks so the search was on. I really wanted a short bed but wasn't finding anything good in the area. I found this 65 long bed and while it's a little banged up. It was a ranch truck from Wyoming originally it is very solid and unmolested. It's powered by a 292 with a 4 speed and has a posi rear. I have to check what ratio this weekend. I have a low 8 second street legal Camaro and work as a race car fabricator so the urge to put a big crazy motor in this thing is tough to fight, but I think a hopped up 292 will be cool and differant so that is the current plan. It could change at any second. Right now I just want to get everything mechanically sound and drive it a bit. So far I've went over all the lights and cleaned up and added a few grounds so I have reasonably bright consistant working lights. Today it's getting smaller mirrors and cleaned up some. Next will be lowering it and installing my 6" and 8" steelies with some repop caps. After that who knows. Sorry for the long post but I'm actually pretty excitied about this truck.

Welcome Jeff, The beauty of these trucks is you have so many directions to take them! I personally like them low and fat but I like them orig. too. Right now the 4X4s are looking good to me. No matter what you decide they are a blast to work on and drive! The color of your truck reminds me of our power co. here, all their trucks were this color through the sixties and seventies. Keep us posted on your progress

Welcome to the forum
That is a decent looking truck! I'm looking forward to this build. I really don't remember seeing many orange trucks this vintage before. Just this last week I picked up a '66 K10 that is orange......and it also came from Wyoming

Re: New 60-66 owner here
They paint them orange up there so they won't get lost in the mountains or on the plains

Re: New 60-66 owner here
I guess orange must be popular in Wyoming. The truck was originally light blue and will return to that one day. I spent most of the day yesterday working on it and it is now road worthy. Its really nice to work on an old vehicle that hasn't been messed with much. I took it for its first drive last night and it is really tight and runs great. I'm sure getting rid of the tube type bias plys for a nice set of radials will make it even better. Going to get a few new pics later today if the fog lifts enough that I can see the truck.

Re: New 60-66 owner here
Big mirrors gone!
Got the first few layers of grime off the motor. Another saturday morning with the pressure washer should get the rest off. The PO had recently put tune up parts on it but that blue cap has got to go. I also need to make some nicer battery cables. I hate those universal clamp on terminals but it;s what they had at the local parts store to get my by. Atleast it starts consistantly now. I was surprised to find the plastic tag still on the fill plug when I checked the gear oil. it cleaned up nice. Inside of the bed. Getting ready to order tires and some parts to get it down to a more acceptable ride height!

Re: New 60-66 owner here
Great find. What are your plans for wheels/tires/stance? Just curious as I'm running some very old, tubed and cracked 7.50/15 Traction King's myself. I'd really like to go to a wider tire and a small drop but like the steels I've got now. Would like to see what you choose.

Re: New 60-66 owner here
Over the past couple weeks I've replaced the thermostat and all the coolant hoses, replaced rear axle seals and got a new windsheild. It's now inspected and I've put close to 200 miles on it. Going to order tires after the holidays. Was originally planning a 4/6 static drop but now thinking about bagging it.
