Another roller cam conversion question...
I've got a '90 454 out of a Suburban that I'm going to be swapping into my dually. I think I'm going to go with a roller cam.
Is there any reason I can't just go to the local pick 'n pull and yank all the roller cam stuff off a Vortec block to retrofit into my '90? Yes, my '90 block has the roller cam girdle bosses cast into the lifter valley. |

Going more for mileage (in a 454, ha!) and longevity. Plus, I don't really want to have to hand-wring over all the zzdp controversy.

Re: Another roller cam conversion question...
The vortec blocks have a plate that bolts to the valley to hold the roller lifters in so i dont know if it would work

Re: Another roller cam conversion question...
As far as the aftermarket rollers go, the early small block retrofit rollers are EXACTLY the same as the Mark IV big block lifters except for the tie bar lengths. That means the V6 rollers will fit the big block lifter bores and be properly oiled. Now as far as the factory Vortec tie bars and spider are concerned, I have no idea if those are the same to hold those V6 roller lifters in place.
Oh, does your block have the cam thrust retainer bosses to use the (I'm assuming here) stock retainer/etc hold the roller cam in place, or will you be using a retainer button with aftermarket timing cover? I guess this question only makes sense if the big block will need these parts as the small block Chevys do... you know what assuming does. LOL!
