What is this part?
I am getting rid of the chrome engine parts and going stockish.This was inside the stock air cleaner held on by a clip,its an AC part.Any ideas?Do I need it?

I am betting there are 2 vaccuum hose nipples on it. It looks like a thermal valve that closes the snorkle to draw heated air up from a tube that is close to the exhaut manifold.
Is was this a California truck?

You would only need it if you are using a thermostatic air cleaner with the tube going to the exhaust manifold. If you are using a chrome open element air cleaner you don't need it.

I will be using a stock style air cleaner but I have headers,no exaust manifold.The engine is original 69 307 but the air cleaner was bought on parts board{72 I think}.I am going to omit the part.Thanks.
