GM truck 12 bolt. any lockers for these?
ok so i have 4.11:1 gears i have now comfirmed, with me and some one else spinning my hubs the same direction at the same speed and the pinion did 4 fast revolutios, while we did 1 slow turn on the hubs. its open differental. id like to change that, ive looked at power trax richmond loc rite set ups, and they only carry the cars 12 bolt version. It looks nothing like GMs pick up 12 bolt... does anyone else carry this without having to buy there whole differental package?

I know a 12 bolt car and truck carrier are different but, I wonder that since the lockrite goes inside your original carrier if that part every 12 bolt is the same. On richmonds website they do list for a truck 12 bolt but it is the same part as a car 12 bolt. They should know what they are selling you would think.

Andrew, I think he is considering a lockrite as they can be installed by anyone with a little mechanical experience. If that's not the case than I totally agree with you. Can't beat the Eaton GM puts in them.

no there for trucks as well you just need to know how many spline your axles are a guy just stuck one in his truck about 2 weeks ago if you go do a search in the engine and drivetrain you will find he posed a part number as well. imo there junk I've got one collecting dust in storage. if I ever get aa 4wD I might pop it into the front axle that's where something like this belongs

Eaton is the most popular. They make the detroit true trac that's gotten very popular lately, and they also make the clutch style posi's that were installed in muscle cars since the early 60's. Both work well. |

Re: GM truck 12 bolt. any lockers for these?
thanks for the advice guys, i do plan on maybe building this 12 bolt up, with it doing 4 fast revolutions no wander my right tire on the back is bald, never gets traction on take offs and such. cruises through town like in 3rd gear at 30 mph, i think of it like its an over drive in town, but once i hit the high way its 5.5 mpg

Yea that question was pretty tricky. Eatons lockers look pretty sophisticated also, is anybody running an Eaton Locker?

Re: GM truck 12 bolt. any lockers for these?
I got a true track from Detroit . Love it to death. A lil more gas and it chirps the inside wheel in a corner. I highly recommend it. Also cheaper than the spring type eaton both great units. Lockers are nice but to me kinda a nuisance on the street. Good for weekend warriors I would say.

I would change the 12 to a truck ten if I were you IMO since there's more options and unless your going tens or faster no need for the 12 bolt and its lady's sized pinion diameter gear haha. I launch straight as an arrow and can do it with one wheel in dirt ant the other on dry ground. Can go around a corner tap the gas and drift if I want and go through windy roads with ease. Love it. I've burned a few eatons but they can be upgraded to 800# springs and cf clutches so when you go and park your tires drag like a spool. My old man has a locker in his elky. A lil but of gas and a sharp turn locks it and you chirp and bounce or it don't lock and clack clack clack around the corner. The auburn. You burn it up and buy another. No point in getting it can't be rebuilt. Lunch box lockers. They can take some abuse and are good on price don't last terribly long and not the best choice for high hp and big tire combos.
