Question about PRND connector

I'm working on the wiring harness from my 5.3 vortec, the engine and trans are not from the same truck and the PRND connectors don't match.

I'm not sure what to do, I'm using the neutral safety switch on the Ididit steering column so I think I don't really need to connect the PRND switch and I can just remove the connector from the harness. Is this correct?

Thanks

Re: Question about PRND connector

You don't need it unless you going with an electronic PRND indicator like the newer vehicles. The stock lever will work just fine, if you don't like that, use the locar cable

Re: Question about PRND connector

I always use them....Cant do a Cam/Crank relearn without it, Well you can by fooling the PCM with grounding some wires, To much hassle in my opinion.

A 04-06 will have the correct connecter for your newer trans.

Re: Question about PRND connector

Or replace the switch with one that matches the year of engine and harness.
Name of the switch is "NSBU" Neutral Start Back Up switch. Just adding that to this in case someone is searching NSBU.

I would have it connected so the ECU sees the input from it.

Re: Question about PRND connector

The older style has two seperate connectors, the new style has one single connector.

AC Delco PN: D2257C is the newer
AC Delco PN: D2263C is the older one that is looks like you may need ...

sorry to butt in, but is it possible to run the trans without that computer box that is attached to the trans?

Re: Question about PRND connector

Thanks for the help Autozone has the switch PN DR4033. Now that I have the right switch installed a new question has come up. The switch has two connectors, while removing the unused wires from the wiring harness based on LT1Swap I removed the larger of the two connectors. Do I need it? I did a search of the site and I can't find a definate answer.

Re: Question about PRND connector

You only really need the 4 wires that go to the PCM. The others are nice to have since its a more accurate neutral safety switch, but it is more wiring and if you're using the one on the column you'll be fine.

Re: Question about PRND connector

The small connector (C1) has the "switch inputs" that go the PCM, But the Large connector (C2) has the ground curcuit for them to work, So you need both.

Pin D is the ground, Just ground this wire.

Pin C is the ignition hot for the Back up lamps, Im guessing the Ididit switch has provisions? If so....Not needed.

Re: Question about PRND connector

I have a question related to the new connector, can I use it as my neutral switch, and if I can, does any one has the wiring diagram for the new connector, the steering column I bought does not have provisions for the neutral switch.

Thanks

Re: Question about PRND connector

My conversion I have the single connector on my transmission switch. Below is the pin outs for the switch:

Pins 1-8 are ran into the computer. Pins 9-12 are the ones that I used for my neutral safety and reverse light. I ran these wires to relays to prevent any type of higher amps or voltage form going through the small size wires. It worked for me.

I hope the attached pdf file works it shows the pin locations on the harness plug.

I can not so any pictures of the relays due to I took the truck apart to get ready for paint.

Pin Wire Color Circuit No. Function
1 DK GRN 1433 Clutch Start Switch Signal
2-3 -- -- Not Used
4 YEL 772 Transmission Range Switch Signal B
5 BLK/WHT 771 Transmission Range Switch Signal A
6 GRY 773 Transmission Range Switch Signal C
7 BLK/WHT 451 Ground
8 WHT 776 Transmission Range Switch Signal P

9 LT GRN 275 Park Neutral Position Switch Signal
10 GRY 1524 Back-Up Lamp Supply Voltage
11 PNK 839 Ignition 1 Voltage
12 PPL 639 Ignition 1 Voltage

I hope this helps. Good luck on the project.

Re: Question about PRND connector

Thanks rmvlt, I only need wires 9 thru 12 for this to work. Wire 11 and 12 just need voltage, but I can run them thru the fuse block that I am using for the other pink wires correct. This is good info because I was going to buy an aftermarket neutral switch.

Thanks again

You are correct about the pink wires. I would make sure that you don't connect all the pink wires to one source. I used a fuse block from current performance. They had hook ups for the different sensors, ignition coils and the injectors. Good luck with your build.

Re: Question about PRND connector

Thanks rmvlt, actually I am using a fuse block from current performance as well. I just need to find information on how to wire the #9 wire, since my 66 did not had provisions for a neutral switch, I am planning on adding a new harness for the truck, but I wnat to do that until I paint the truck, for now I want to use the old harness.

Thanks

I found a picture that is like how mine is setup.

Sorry if the picture is so big. The only difference is the instead of the 12 volt positive from the brake light switch connect the wire from the neutral safety switch, which i think is the light green pin 9, to that plug. It is marked 86. The purple wire from your switch goes to number 30 and the purple wire going to the starter goes to number 87. Ground goes to number 85. Number 87A is not used. The relay is set up for normally open, so when the positive power from the neutral safety switch will close the contact allowing power from the key to go to the starter. Some times this kind of stuff is clear as mud. It took me a while to figure this out. I hope this helps if you go with this setup.

Re: Question about PRND connector

So I made my own diagram... does it look right??
What are the 3 and 4 digit reference numbers?
How can you have pin 5 and pin 7 with the same Black and White? Is one Black with a White Stripe while the other is White with a Black Stripe?

Re: Question about PRND connector

The 3 and 4 digit numbers are circuit numbers.
As for having two black and white wires, alot of wires are repeated In a harness. I don't have my schematics with me to tell if its correct.but looks right.

I just looked at LT1Swap.com and it shows both pin 5 and 7 as Black with white stripe. They both go back to the PCM so you should not have to mess with them.

Here is the link.
