Sad day for this '67 Owner - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Some of you might remember my trying to buy a '67 a few years ago. It had sat for years. The owner finally got it cleaned up and got it going good. As I was hauling another load to our new house yesterday, I drove by (as I do often) his place to see if he was still messing with it. Well, see the pic below...

I had a big trailer and couldn't turn around for a pic of the drivers side but , just behind the drivers door there is a spot that a telephone pole or a tree would fit in perfect. Looks like the gas tank may have burst. I am not sure of the condition of the driver. Doesn't look good... I'll try to get more pics and some info.

Never a good thing and I hope all involved with that are OK. Maybe you can get it for a parts truck in the future. I like the dog dish caps and they are like gold these days.

thats terrible hopefully nobody was in it at the time. check out the steering wheel

I bet most of the parts are toast maybe some frontend stuff is still good yet

Nothing a couple of Eastwood steering wheel epoxy kits couldn't fix.

Such a shame seeing another oldie lost. There are SO many new cars & trucks that could (should) go up in flames, WHY an oldie!@#!

On a serious note, the driver is probably ok. I couldn't see them towing it back to their own house if they lost someone in it. That's the last place they would want it.

This is why you need to ditch drum brakes. Seriously I hope they got out alright.

That's what I thought... All the deputies eat at my restaurant. I'll be getting the details.

Same here. I know I wouldn't want it in my front yard. All the glass is missing... probably only had lap belts and he may have not even worn it and went through the windshield (of course it all melted/burned too...)?

If he's OK, ask how much for all the grill trim

Repaint it and call it done!
I do hope the owner is ok though....

I had this happen to me with a mid 80's skyhawk while I was in the driver's seat...not a fun experience.

i hope the guy got out ok! truck wasnt just a everyday 67 either looks like it was a 1/2 ton custom camper... sad to see another one go. if the metal isnt warped to bad that could be saved! try and buy the truck now and part it out!

Without knowing the cause of the accident... what do drum brakes have to do with it? Drum brakes are perfectly safe.

I agree, I am completely comfortable with my drum brakes and I drive in traffic a lot.

I had some real close calls with my truck drifting sideways when I had drums. I'm just assuming thats what happened to that truck but it could have been anything that caused it. No offense guys.

Drum brakes up front have a tendency to stick a little on one side or the other at times, which, under hard braking can cause the vehicle to pull to one side or the other. I test drove quite a few 65-66 mustangs over the past year and almost every one of them pulled to one side or the other. Sitting a lot doesn't help, which is what a lot of these old vehicles do, sit, and get fired up a few times a month or less. I remember back when my truck had drums that it pulled left to right and back sometimes under hard braking. You can keep your drums, but I feel discs are safer.

Ouch, with my bad luck involving fire ( lost my 85 swb my house a camper and almost lost my 83 lwb and my 78 wrecker and even my 88 ranger) my biggest fear is losing my baby in flames

And at one time they were mechanical, and before that they were only on the rear, but technology got better. And tractor trailers do still use drums, but they're also powered by very powerful air brake chambers, also if they are not adjusted properly they will pull to one side or the other. Automatic slack adjusters help, but only to an extent. personally, I like discs.

Man that is a real bummer; hope the driver made out okay.

I converted to disc on the front for a safer ride with more stopping power; but the drums did serve me well for 3 years of stop and go traffic... Though I will not be missing them!

There are a lot of things in this world that at one time or another we thought were safe, but with advancements in technology we realized they weren't and moved on. Radium, asbestos, and lead come to mind.

I'll be keeping my discs up front and my 67 Firebird is getting a disc conversion kit.

Yeah but luckily i now keep a fire extinguisher close so i know i can fight it but the 85 had the tranny blow a seal or something throwing fluid out the dipstick all over exhaust and the wrecker backfired and caught the whole truck on fire it ruined the hood winshield and dashpad and the ranger and other were electrical the house and camper idk what happened
