need a little help with torque thrust ii backspacing
I'm ready to order wheels and am just a little unsure about the backspacing and offset.
From what I've gathered negative offset makes the dish size bigger as does less backspacing, less backspacing is also going to make the wheels stick out further, where more backspacing will bring the wheels in so you can tuck them inside the fender wells. I understand too much backspacing will make them rub. My truck, a 69 c10 (currently down for restoration) has stock 72 spindles up front and and a stock 373 posi rear end from a 71 c10 truck. The truck has been leveled (1" front and 3" rear) I am wanting to go 17x8 all the way around. Eventually I do want to go with a 4/6 drop but that will be later. These are the wheels I have selected; does the backspacing look correct for my application and do you think it will still be okay when I do go to a 4/6 drop? 17x8 Polished Torque Thrust II Manufacturer Part Number VN5157873 Offset -- -11 millimeters Backspace -- 4.93 inches Hub Bore -- 83.06 millimeters Thanks fellas! |

Re: need a little help with torque thrust ii backspacing
That will work great for the front.
They might look a little "sucked in" on the rear,... because the rear track width is narrower. Alot of people run a 17x9.5 on the back to help hide this. Use a 17x9.5 (with 5" BS) on the back. 255/50 tire up front and a 275/50 tire on the back will look good.

Re: need a little help with torque thrust ii backspacing
5" BS would be better with the wider 71-72 rearend.
It really depends on how you like your wheel and tire combo. Some like them sucked under the fenders,... some like them sticking out. The 4/6 drop will require them to be under so they won't rub. Get out your tape measure and see what you think.

Re: need a little help with torque thrust ii backspacing
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, I do appreciate it.
I was just itchin to get these ordered and am not at home right now. I didn't really understand the offset and backspacing. I think I have a much better grasp today then I did yesterday. Will measure tonight. Thanks again - Jimmy Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: need a little help with torque thrust ii backspacing
He's plastered all over the forum and seems like he does, so I took his advice. I couldn't get a real good feel by measuring tonight since my bed is off the truck. I went ahead and ordered 17x8's with 4.93 backspacing -11 offset for the front and 17x9.5 for the rear with 5.56 backspacing and +8 offset. I couldn't find any 17x9.5 with 5"bs without having to order them custom and I don't have the extra funds for that. If I absolutely have to... I'll add some good 6061 1/2 inch spacers. :-/

Re: need a little help with torque thrust ii backspacing
i know this is old but on a 18x8 would 5 inch back space work well on my 67 with 85 drop spindles?
