Re: Wood Bed Installation question
I didn't go through the wood on the blue '65. Just notched the back of the wood for the bolt heads and bolted the metal braces down. Much cleaner looking that way.

Re: Wood Bed Installation question
I ground out the underside of the boards and installed the bolts hidden. It works great.

Re: Wood Bed Installation question
First of all your truck came out great! I have been working on my bed for over a month working out all the imperfections. I was on GMC Paul's site and saw that he had the specs for cutting you own boards. Did you cut your own and what stain did you use? I guess I can do the same with my stepide just use the strips to hold down the wood?

Re: Wood Bed Installation question
Bed install on Ol John Lee....pine from lowes, milled at home on the table saw. Only thru bolts were on the extreme left and right bed rails at the angle brackets and the four holes for bed to frame holddown.

I'm just starting to install my wood I went with a balck stain. but I also sealed the 4 corner pocket holes on top of the bed and the seam on the back side of the bed. Along with the hidden hinges No chains.
