Re: how about some 73/87 chevy and gmc utility beds
I've got the bed of a GMC stepside longbed that has low-profile utility boxes on the sides instead of fenders/steps. Was gonna make a trailer outta it...I will get pics in a couple days.

Don't own any of those in that batch, just pics I've saved. Used to have an 87 R30 in blue just like the green one though.

Re: how about some 73/87 chevy and gmc utility beds
Until very recently I worked at a Wrecking Yard in northwestern Washington (State). One day they brought in a 1982 GMC C25 that looked to have a low-profile utility bed on it. I always go look at every square that came in there, ALWAYS...didn't matter how rusted or munched, I looked for interesting/rare parts. It took me a whole trip around this thing to realize it had a wooden bed floor that looked like those in stepsides... waaaaaait a minute, that looks like a GM front bulkhead...(tailgate was down)...closed the tailgate and just about peed all over it instantly. HOLY CRAP! A GMC longbed stepside with utility boxes!!! I found a tag on the front corner of the driver's side box, it was upfitted/converted by company in Seattle, WA. I don't remember the details, but the tag is still there. I talked to one of the parts guys and worked out a deal to buy the back half of the truck. I unbolted the cab and sawzalled the frame where you can see in the pictures. I wanted to clean it, patch up a couple things, and build it into a trailer to tow behind my truck. I had envisioned putting a pop-up camper in it and having one sweet setup for the weekends. Eh, decided to go finish my education first. Projects later.

Re: how about some 73/87 chevy and gmc utility beds
Here's one of mine. 91 GMC 3500 old TXDOT truck from up around Dallas area. Zero rust at ALL, and all the interior is there and intact. Has a propane system in it to boot, but i'm gonna ditch that. Bought it to swap the cab engine and front sheetmetal to my 89 v3500 project.

Re: how about some 73/87 chevy and gmc utility beds
I would love to have a utility box truck. I've seen some 67-72 trucks with rims that look sweet. If I had one I would lower it and put some wheels on it. I like patina trucks so I would try to find some with door logos like a work truck.

Re: how about some 73/87 chevy and gmc utility beds
Note the crew utility has 19.5s
The CUCV Brush truck I bought at auction, hit so hard left front that the frame was buckled.

Re: how about some 73/87 chevy and gmc utility beds
And this is what happens when you put a 9 foot utility body meant for a 31003 cab and chassis with a 135.5 wheelbase on a pickup chassis that only has a 131.5 inch chassis.

Re: how about some 73/87 chevy and gmc utility beds
Nice, so was that a camper hauler? The west coast has much nicer utility beds. They are lower profile. For some reason, ours leave so much fender well, for the same height box over the wheel the boxes ride much higher. even low-profiles rides higher than yours

Re: how about some 73/87 chevy and gmc utility beds
It is a Camper Special, 8200GVWR. With the bed painted to match the cab I suspect it went on fairly early. The inside of the bed is pretty beat up and there's evidence of some stuff having been welded to it, so I suspect it was used as a work truck rather than a camper hauler.
