brake bleeding/proportioning valve question...
Hey Guys,
I recently had a rear wheel cylinder go bad on my '72 LWB, so I replaced the wheel cylinder and put a new brake line on as well. And I was having trouble getting my brake light to go out. So, of course, I started looking for answers on here...and I found them (you guys are awesome!). But, I want to be sure that I have it right before I go out and lay in snow to fix it this weekend. To get the light out, I should open the front bleeders and pump the pedal 3-4 times and the proportioning valve should go out...and if that doesn't work (and it didn't last weekend), I should try a quick 'kick' to the pedal. Is that right? And then, I should push in the button on the proportioning valve and let all 4 bleeders gravity bleed for a bit, without touching the pedal. Does that sound right? And just fyi, when I would pump the pedal last weekend, the brake light to go off as I pushed the pedal down, and come back on as I let off. Thank for any input, guys! Chris |

Re: brake bleeding/proportioning valve question...
The way I did mine was just stomp on the pedal real hard a few times until I heard an audible "pop". All the bleeders were closed when I did it. Then I went around and bled the brakes like normal.

Okay, cool. Maybe I'm over thinking it...a good, solid stomp sounds a lot easier!

Re: brake bleeding/proportioning valve question...
That worked for me also.... a few good HARD pushes on the brake pedal.

Re: brake bleeding/proportioning valve question...
Hey Guys,
I've tried giving the brakes a few good hards pumps...but the brake light still won't go out. I also cracked the front bleeders and pumped the pedal a few times...the brake light will blink out and then come back on. So, I'm kinda looking for suggestions...could I need a new proportioning valve? Any other ideas? Thanks guys! Chris Posted via Mobile Device |

Push in the button on the front of the prop valve and keep it pushed in. Bleed your brakes from farthest rear to the front then let the button go.

Re: brake bleeding/proportioning valve question...
Just did that on a 77 K10 and it worked. They even make a tool to bolt to the proportioning valve that holds the button in. I just had my son hold it while grandpa ran the peddle and I got the air out. Great family time..."keep holding the button!", "up...down...up...down", what? Grandpa's hearing isn't what it used to be, lol. We got it done. BTW, we tried the brake stomp which worked on my 71, but it didn't work on the 77 for some reason.

Hey Guys,
I'm flying solo today, so I'll have to get creative to get brakes bled. Thanks so much for the input! Chris Posted via Mobile Device |
