Looking to lower my truck inexpensively.
I posted this in the 47-53 thread, but thought i'd get a few more suggestions here. I'm looking for the cheapest and easiest way to lower my truck. It's a 49 3100 sitting on a 55 chevy frame, straight axle with a 235 engine, 6 lug wheels, ect. Just want to drop it down as much as possible without the expense of swapping frames or bagging it. I looked at the sids drop spindles, but thought i'd ask you guys for any advice.
Thanks, Scott |

Bagging is pretty cheap considering, but I also don't know how hard it would to bag the older setups. After my '69, I will never static drop something again.

How low do you want to go? CPP sells front monoleaf springs for about 2-3" of drop. Flipping the axle on the rear is easy enough on those trucks, then add blocks to desired height.

Looks like i'm going with the sids drop axle in the front, and blocks in the rear. Seems like it will be the best way for my budget.

Re: Looking to lower my truck inexpesively.
Is this a 55 1rst series chassis? or a 55-59 chassis? If there were no real mods to make the swap, I'd guess 55 1rst series. If so, call it a 54, you'll have less headaches. re-arching the springs is cheapest, if there is a spring shop close to you. I have 1pr of rear mono springs with a standard eye, appx 2 1/2" to 3" drop from stock. I'll sell the last pair for $200 + shipping. I also like the Posies springs. Up front, once you pass the 3" drop range, you start adding steering problems, so keep it reasonable. Cool lookin truck.

My axle is on it's way back from Sid. Cost about $800 for the full meal deal with freight, all new tie rod ends, new drag link, etc.
