Lug Nuts

I just ordered a set of black wheels for my truck from Diamond Racing Wheels, and I'm looking for some lug nuts for them. They require a 12mm/1.5 with a 45 degree conical seat. He mentioned something about acorn style.

Does anyone know if these will work? I don't think these are acorns, but all the specs are right.

Thanks guys.

Re: Lug Nuts

Look at speedway motors. Long 5/8" studs like a stockcar uses would be pretty cool too.

Yeah, I'll check speedway motors.

I found these, I think they might look good with the black wheels

Re: Lug Nuts

Does anyone know whether it matters if i get a single or double sided lug nut? I didn't know whether that was personal preference or what.

So, I need to change wheel studs? Stock wheel studs are 1/2 inch?

Re: Lug Nuts

After doing some more research I don't see why they won't work on my truck. I can use a 45 degree conical seat lug nut on the stock wheel studs from what I can tell.

Re: Lug Nuts

Get the right seat angle and you should be good. The stock studs would be fine those wheels should take up to a 5/8" stud without drilling

you can get 45deg conical seat in any thread but its got to be able to screw on your studs and a metric thread nut wont screw on a standard thread stud.

If you want an acorn style, which just covers the stud and gives a slightly cleaner look without separate caps, these aren't bad.

Re: Lug Nuts

It does not matter whether the threads are metric ar a standard thread. It is the conical taper and the length that matters. You can get the same basic lug nut in either thread pattern, so check your studs and order what you want and need. I go to my local street rod shop and pick mine up, he has them on hand. They are plentiful on the internet from numerous suppliers.

My 84 GMC and my son's 86 Chevy both have 1/2" studs, the 91 truck that I had used a metric thread. My new daily driver has a metric thread.

Just so the others don't get weird here. The threads do matter on each vehicle, but the companys build lugnuts to fit each vehicle in the same designs. I meant that the threads don't matter because you can get what you want in either metric or standard, but you need to fit those nuts to the studs and get it right. Just pick the design of lugnut you want and buy that design with the right threads.

This ain't rocket science

Re: Lug Nuts

Thanks guys for the replies. But, I canceled my wheel order. From what I read you can't even get them balanced like a normal wheel, something about them not being Hub Centric.

Any tire shop worth a pinch of crap can balance them.
They also have buckets of lug nuts that will fit.

Re: Lug Nuts

I am having a tough time finding an answer to the size of lug nut for 1986 k3500 dually. I keep getting two answers. 1/2" and 9/16" . I have to order online and want to be sure they are correct. Anyone know the right one of the 2?

Not entirely true, from what I have seen it depends on the type of rear end. For instance, I have a friend that has a 14 bolt dually 2wd, it is 1/2" threads. My 2wd dually has a Dana 70, it is 9/16". Not trying to confuse anyone, just what I have seen.

9/16". Never seen 1/2" lugs on an 8-lug GM truck.
