5.3 Vortex motor question and transfer case

I not for sure how I can find all post related putting a 5.3 Vortex in a 72 Jimmie 4x4. Any help in that area I would appreciate.
Right now I have a 1999 5.3 Vortex overdrive tranny and transfer case from the 1999, can I adapt the transfer case to work, right now it made to come out the left side (driver side) whereas I am still using the original front axle, and need it to come out the right side like my old NP 205. The markings on the transfer case 246 GM Serial # 12-28-98-K3; any help would be appreciated.

David
Look under the LSX area on this forum, there is tons of info on swaps. As far as that driver side drop transfer case you won't be able to use it. You can either use your stock th350 trans with the 5.3 stand alone harness. If you want overdrive you could use a 700r4 or 4l60e. There are a couple different transfer cases you can use one being your stock np205 with an adapter kit to the 4l60e. Also check out ls1tech.com

Re: 5.3 Vortex motor question and transfer case

I did the 6.0 vortec with a 4L60E swap.

Easiest way to make it work and keep the overdrive is to get the adapters from Advance Adapters, mate your original 205 to the new 4L60 and be on your way, works slick

Does advanced adapters make the complete kit or is there still modifications that need to be done to adapt the trans and tcase.

Re: 5.3 Vortex motor question and transfer case

They make the complete kit.

I bought the mount, VSS adapter, and a coupler, as well as the VSS sensor and reluctor wheel, and it all bolted togther. Very simple.

I believe the instructions mention taking your original mount and machining a recess which will work fine if you want to save some coin on a new mount.

I opted to just buy their new mount with the machining already done so I could keep my stock stuff intact.

Re: 5.3 Vortex motor question and transfer case

FirebirdJones, yeh that is what I am going to do, I have already contacted Advance Adapters, they needed to know the spline count on the 205 and mine was 32. I am taking the 205 up to my brother Jim (Master Mechanic) and hopefully will just need to put new seals. When I find out the 205 in good shape I will order the adapter kit.

Re: 5.3 Vortex motor question and transfer case

i just ordered my kit from advanced adapters,,ask for matthew when ordering your kit, he knocked mine down to 655 shipped, which saved like 140 bucks...just bs with him a lil bit and he will work with ya..im hoping to have mine by next week so i can get my tranny guy to throw the shaft in for me..you will however hasve to fab up an engine crossmember or buy one somewhere, but likely even the ones you buy still need a lil tweaking

If you decide to buy the engine cross member, get it from Pacific Fab.

I used their newest design, worked great, no fabbing necessary, dropped right in.
