Broken TF front shock mounts.

Does anyone else have broken upper front shock mounts? What did you do to fix them. Would using the frame as an upper mount impact the ride quality? I am running the stock solid front axle.

They alway broke because of a bad design and crappy metal. In the 70's you could not even find them in wrecking yards. I made replacements out of 3/16" stock shaped to match. Important is to keep the upper bolt hole for the shock in the same location and plane, parallel to the lowere pivot mount so they do not bind. I don't think just using the frame will give you enough compression length.

Re: Broken TF front shock mounts.

If it's only the bolt that broke off, you can drill it out, and use this 'shock mount kit' :

Re: Broken TF front shock mounts.

The shocks are already mounted to the frame ( the previous owner did it) but it rides really rough and I thought that it the broken mounts might have something to do with it. My front shocks are really short as a result. I hope to take my front clip off this spring to detail the frame and perhaps I could build new ones then.

Re: Broken TF front shock mounts.

I won't be using mine (going to clip my '56).

Will check them this afternoon, and if they're good I'll PM you.

Re: Broken TF front shock mounts.

I checked my mounts and they look good- problem is that it just got picked up to go into storage until I get the clip done (two week wait, tops). Can you wait a bit until I can (physically) get to them, or do you need them right away?
