Fender lace or welting? yes/no?

Are any of you using the welting or caulk in between the fenders?

Any recommendations?

Also inside the cab there is a small channel that looks like it was for interior strips (possibly for panels) anyone know what this is? I am debating if I should strip these off to make the cab walls smooth. I don't have a picture of what I am talking about but they run parallel to the door etc.

those channels are for the windlase cab seals
they go around the top and sides to hold the cab seal

I didn't want the look of welt on my 55 so I used Eastwood brush on seam sealer on all the flanges where welt would go and any other bolt on parts that were metal to metal. I masked it off so I didn't get sealer where I didn't want it, let it dry and then installed the parts. I don't know if it was wasted labor or not but it went together nice, looks good and probably won't squeek or rattle and certainly not rust.

Personally I don't care for fender welt. I used 3M strip caulk between all body panels (including the fenders). It's inexpensive ($20 for entire box which is more than enough). It never dries out. It works the same but I think looks cleaner over all.

Your truck looks great. But what's the purpose of this stuff? Our trucks didn't come with anything between the fenders & bed so I wonder about putting anything in there that may trap moisture?

i used fender welt on my 58 and like the look.
my bed sides had waves and didn't fit perfect (shocking, i know )
i stuck the welting on the fenders with double sided tape

It basically just forms a gasket when the strip caulk squished down from tightening the bolts. It would work simularly to welt. It helps keep water from sitting in between the panels. It also helps to cut down on any squeeking that might occure from two metal panels rubbing on each other.
