Proform distributors?

All I have ever seen come from Proform was cheap-made Chinese junk.
I don't know about those distributors but with me their reputation is shot so I will never know.

I replaced my stock distributor with a Proform and have not had any problems to date other then the control module, but I have always had control module problems for some reason . Even with stock modules.

I would buy it again if it came down to it. If I had the money I would buy the MSD, but for $150-160 the Proform is a great product.
I have had it in my daily driver for around 2 years now, maybe longer, I would have to check the receipt.

i had a set of Pro Form valve covers. if they can screw up a set of stamped steel valve covers, what makes you think they can make anything electrical work right?

I highly reccommend you not buy a Proform....have more issues than time to type them down.

Get an AC Delco HEI....

baffles falling apart.

the holes werent drilled in the proper location, they were about 1/16" off, so i had to enlarge them to get the covers to fit right.

chrome plating was junk and flaking off all over the place.

i also have one of thir timing covers, it looks decent, but it has yet to be subjected to any sort of heat or underhood environments. i doubt it ever will.

You know what gets me, Proform is a licensed parts supplier for GM. Kind of gives you an idea of the direction GM is heading, no?

It's got to be a money thing to GM, but come on.

I have a Proform harmonic balancer cover, with the degreed timing marks. Of course this does nothing mechanical so I'm not too concerned about it. It seems to be accurate.

I will agree that Proform makes some junk. But I have had good results with their hei distr. and would buy it again if it came down to it.

Proform pays GM so they can put the Various GM logos on their dress-up products. I have never used the proform distributor. In fact.....the only proform products I have ever purchased are a oil dipstick tube and a thermostat housing on my camaro......How can you screw those up.....LOL

O you'd be suprised.
For the $150 a new proform HEI costs I would much rather [and did exactly that] buy a MSD coil+module to spice up my stock HEI.

If you are using any, and I mean any chrome thermostat housing, you better keep and eye on it. Before long, it will eat through and start leaking. The pot metal these things are made from will not hold up, especially the cheap ones. Mr. Gasket is another one. When you chrome it, it breaks the metal down to where it can't take any harsh treatment. Remember, they dip it in acid before the chroming process.

I wanted a chrome housing too, but decided to lay down the money and go with a polished billet one. I didn't feel the need to get stranded by a cheap piece of junk leaking on me.

I've said this many times, probably too many, and I'm quite sure most of you are tired of seeing it, but, you get what you pay for. If you buy it because it's cheap, you will get cheap. Maybe if your expectations are not set too high you won't be too disappointed when it gives up the ship.

Hmmm....looks like someone took what I said personal. I guess after rereading what I typed, I can't say I blame you. I wasn't directing at anyone in particular. Just a general statement.

I've seen it happen too many times, and too me also. I've got two of the cheap Mr. Gasket housing laying in the shop right now with pits on the inside where it was starting to eat through. And only after a short while of running.

Anyway, what I do, and maybe you do too, is use distilled water in my cooling system. There are no minerals to react with the metal to start rust. It's really bad when you are like me and have well water. But I can't stand to drink city water.

I can agree with that statement, but not only for chrome housing. I bought a "stock" housing from the dealership and it was junk! It started leaking within a year. I though it was the silicone. I took it off and noticed the internal walls had like chunks out of them and the metal (cast, pot?) looked as if it was soaking up the coolant/water. I went to a local shop and bought an aluminum adjustable (360 degree) housing, O-ring type. I have been happy with it so far, 2 years probably. I have had it off a few times and it looked perfect inside. I needed the adjustable when I have the aftermarket a/c crap on. Couldnt use the stock radiator hose. Now I have the stock hose back on.
