GMC Dual Wheel Conversion?
I have a 72 GMC Camper Special, orig BB truck. All that was gone 20 yrs ago.
Small block and 4 spd OD now. Been sitting a few yrs but getting ready to start using it again. I'm interested in going to dual wheels and a flatbed. Any suggestions on the dual wheels. Current rear with spacers , longer studs, etc.? New rear from a dually, if so whats the easiest, best? Which wheels? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Not interestested in hauling extra weight, just the look, I'll probably fab up my own bed. Thanks Don |

Re: GMC Dual Wheel Conversion?
I did this a couple of years ago. I had to run 1/2 inch spacers the get the wheels to clear the brake drums. Along with the 1/2 spacer, I had to press in longer wheel lug studs. Other than that, it was a straight forward bolt on.

[QUOTE=Tx Firefighter;5842886]I did this a couple of years ago. I had to run 1/2 inch spacers the get the wheels to clear the brake drums.
Is that why the 1 ton dually rear I seen last week had what looked like a builtin spacer on the drum? I thought it was to get the dual tire/wheel out to clear the springs. I'm just starting to collect what I need. Any particular wheels to use, or avoid? Source on the spacers? Anyone know the spring perch spread on the 72? 73-87? 89up? I know where there is an early 80s dually rear, but won't be able to measure mine before my next trip to where the dually rear is. Don |

Re: GMC Dual Wheel Conversion?
I'm looking into something similar. I have the same truck (except the big block and the the 400 are still there.) I picked up a pair of mid 70's dually rotors and am looking to put in a D70 dually rear. I know the widths are different between the cab-n-chassis rears and the pick up rears. I also think the spring perches are different too. I know the rear I have from a 69 towtruck I parted the perches are about 1/2" off. I would swap rears anyway, you'll get bigger brakes.
