Door issues

I'm working on replacing the rockers on a 64. So i pulled the drivers side door off. I went to reinstall it when the bolt plate dropped.. i can cut the inner panel to get to the plate back on my question is what keeps the plate from falling. I could tack it in place but then i would not have any adjustment. I would appreciate any help i can get.

By the way this is my first post... I am not sure if i should have done an intro... So here it goes. I am a visitor for the land of the HAMB.. I mainly build hot rods but found a deal on a 64 so i picked it up for my offspring as her first car. She is 14 so i have a couple of years to work on it.. Mainly fix the **** i screw up on it.... My other cars are 1932 ford roadster and 1923 ford touring.. And I am a scorpio and I believe in unicorns.

Thanks
Willie

Re: Door issues

I don't know if this helps you. I had to cut mine out and make new plates for my door bolts because they where stripped. I cut mine from the outside, you can see the inside backing in one of the pics.

Re: Door issues

my lower one fell down in the pocket as yours did. fished it back up with a wire and put a bolt back in to hold it. (took awhile to fish it back up) you just have to remember it's loose in there.

Yes ,same with my '61 cab.
To answer your q Willy,, just a couple of cheesy "L" brackets that are barely tacked in at the factory to hold those roughly( and loosly) in place, and yes tacking them in a permanant spot will result in nightmares come alignment time.
If you've lost it(LOL I mean the hinge plate) You can fish for it(like 61K10 and I did) Or cut it open and fix it.

Re: Door issues

I stripped one of mine out also. I just drilled out the hole bigger and tapped it to a larger bolt. Much faster and didn't have to remove the plate. I think the original thread is 3/8 fine and I went to 1/2. What ever the size is I went up one.
