L6 250 Questions
I've built dozens of SBC, Olds, and even Ford V8s, but I don't know a whole lot about the 250. I've got one that sounds like a rod knock, but since I'm unfamiliar with the engine layout, is there anything else that might sound like a rod knock?
I'd like to know if there's something else I should look for before I yank it out. Thanks. |

I'm sure you've isolated it to the engine but for noises I'm not sure of I usually use a 3' section of garden hose. Place one end to my ear and the other end on the side of the block or areas I suspect. Now if you're not certain of the way it sounds, it could be lifter which is a ticking sound, piston slap or crank bearing. Either way, it's going to require a tear down. They're fairly simple engines to work on, though.
