side mirror resto...how to finish?
alright, so I decided to use my side mirrors as little projects during the cold season, got them torn down, blasted, primed, now I'm not sure exactly what to do. the mirrors where white, but had tons of re-paint on them, but from what I could tell while blasting them, they were indeed white, which is fine, because I intend to make them white again. but what I'm not sure of is what to do with the hardware. does anyone know if the nuts/washers, etc, were done white too? where they silver? I'm not sure if anyone would have pictures of these in a more natural state (ie not repainted) or some stock photos. thanks

Re: side mirror resto...how to finish?
I doubt they were painted. If you want to see pictures, google chevy west coast mirrors, and then click the images tab.
I've dealt with a lot of bolts on this truck, and can't remember any that were painted Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: side mirror resto...how to finish?
well, aside from them actually creating blind spots I kinda dig them. they add a certain character to the truck, it's a long stepper, so they seem 'right'. rear visibility is great and I wont have to worry about fixing old and making new holes. I'm not a big fan of the west coast style that mount to the lower part only though, for some reason.

Re: side mirror resto...how to finish?
yeah, no offense lol. I'd rock those if my truck already had them. but for me, it kinda looks like spider man installed them.

Re: side mirror resto...how to finish?
that would be alot easier. I did notice alot of the hardware seemed kinda unique. like acorn bolts with matching acorn nuts. also some of the small nuts are elongated acorns, almost like bullets. I know I couldnt replace them all in stainless without some creative work arounds. thanks again guys!

Re: side mirror resto...how to finish?
I redid mine in white also but i used ss hardware we have a local fastner place and there ss is dirt cheap i got all the hardware includeing some nylon washers for about $4.(try that at lowes or depot) and it damn near matches the oe stuff I went to a local glass place to have new mirrors cut i took the oe ones for templates and the counter person told me "oh these were cut here" I told the person "I bought these from outa state"
oh and they wanted $80 for cutting the two mirrors so i reused the oe ones. although i do believe you can buy replacements over the counter jfyi. i did have a pic of mine but just cant seem too find it and they are packed safely away waiting
