Fuel filter adapter / line connection ??
OK.
Short story: Is it safe / wise to use rubber fuel hose on a barbed fitting, or does it need a smooth fitting to seal properly? Long story: So I'm running 3/8" Dorman nylon fuel line. Somehow I wound up with a 02 Camaro LSI filter. I know about the C5 part but it isn't a good match to my motor since I have a rail mounted pressure regulator & return nipple. The Camaro filter has a male quick connect & a 14x1.5 O ring female fitting. I got a Dorman piece that has the appropriate male fitting but the other end of it is smooth, as for rubber hose. Can i get away with running a 3/8" barb fiting in the nylon line & a short length of rubber fuel hose between the other side of the barb fitting & the piece going to the filter? Really, I don't care if I replace the Camaro filter with something else - just as long as I can plumb it in without too much heartache or money spent on oddball fittings. |

Why are you bothering to use that filter if your running a return system? Wouldn't you pretty much eliminate the whole headache by just running a universal FI rated filter?

The Camaro LS1 filter is a standard style, 3/8 quick connect / 14x1.5 female o ring fitting fuel filter. Speced for use in a system running 54-62 lbs. This is the one I plan on using.
The Corvette filter has the integrated regulator. I'm not using that one. The "truck" filter looks like dual 14x1.5 female threads, which I could use but won't since it won't make my life any easier. The Trailblazer filter is spec'ed for a lower-pressure system, 48 to 54 lbs, but I suspect it could work just fine in an LS swap. It uses quick connect fittings on both ends. I think, though, that I'll just stick with the native parts for LS V8 engines. In any event, I'm going to just put 2 hose clamps on each end of as short a piece of rubber hose as I can make it & call it a day, plumb some fuel & move on with life. |

You can put FUEL INJECTION hose on a barb fitting and clamp it with fuel injection clamps and it will work fine. On the other end, if it's a piece of steel tube, you can put the first step of a double flare on the end using a flaring tool and it will put a 'bubble' on the end and then you can clamp it (I usually use two clamps on them, with the screw parts opposite of each other) and it will work.
