How remove wiring plugs from firewall
Starting to clean up the firewall during my cab off restoration. Is there a trick to removing these successfully? I've attempted to force the softer rubber around the outer most edge back through the hole but it doesn't have a whole lot of give to it. Help?

Re: How remove wiring plugs from firewall
The ignition wire plug has a bevel to it you need to push the harness inside towards the glovebox first then pry out the grommet. The heater wire grommet should not be that difficult to push out.

ah... so they are two pieces? Does the grommet come off from the inside or the out?

Re: How remove wiring plugs from firewall
Just pulled mine out last week. The plugs are held in with semi-hard rubber grommets. I pushed the edges in from outside to inside and worked around the entire edge before it pushed through. It seemed as though the plug was going to break or get damaged, but it just took a little effort and working around the entire edge. Used a flat head screw driver to do the deed. Hope that helps somewhat

Man they are a lot tougher than I thought... put the one on the passenger felt like the entire thing was hard plastic.... I ended up hand sanding around it and taping it off - not wanting to break it off.

Re: How remove wiring plugs from firewall
I have found that sometimes a little silicone spray helps make them slippery enough to get them out of the firewall.
