71K20 rear spring packs

My buddy that has my old green K20 just added new 2.5 inch lift springs on all four corners.

He told me on the rear one of the old stock spring packs had an additional spring (dont remember the exact counts). I told him I would ask here to see if this was factory. It was ordered new with extra heavy duty package, and the dealer also put a set of helper springs on there for the original owner when it was new.

I used to have all the original paper work for this truck but gave it to my buddy when we swapped rigs. I think it said something in there about the suspension.

Re: 71K20 rear spring packs

My 1971 K20 came from the factory with the G60 AUXILIARY SPRING, which is the overload or helper spring with spring perches. It has a spacer block between the main spring pack and the overloads.

Funny thing is, the front overload spring perches are bolted upside down in order to get it to align along the main spring bracket that is rivited to the frame.

I just looked at my stock rear springs today on my K20, 6 leaves in each pack, this includes the bottom leaf that basically straight across. EDIT: the bottom straight leaf is bolted in the same spring pack by the center bolt, not separate like mentioned above. This was per my spid the heavy duty spring option but don't recall the code off hand.

Re: 71K20 rear spring packs

I had the same thing with my 71. An extra leaf on the right side. I replaced them with new ones. I came to the conclusion that the right spring Collapsed and the pos added the extra spring to make it sit level. after installing new springs it sat level.
