middle seat belt

I am getting new seat belts and was wondering how long of a seat belt do I need for the middle seat on a bench seat?

Re: middle seat belt

The truck seat belts were all the same length originally. They were the same as the rear passenger car seat belts.

Hey, aerotruk63, that's interesting--esp. re: any rear passenger car belt being used for pickups.

Re: middle seat belt

The information regarding Rear Passenger Car belts, I have only documentation for 1963, therefore I do not know if that holds true for subsequent years. I do know that the buckles used in 62 & 63 were the same but the webbing of the belt was different. Interestingly enough, the seat belt assemblies were supplied to Chevrolet by the Irving Airchute Co. Model #5000C in 62-63. I found a seat belt at a automotive flea market that had the Irving Airchute decal with the same model number as Chevrolet. Some recent lift trucks have a virtually identical seat belt, though they are not Irving produced. Irving closed it's doors, I think because of a lawsuit. I do not know if they operate by another name. You can find the Chevrolet Decal in reproduction.

Re: middle seat belt

I have Irving 5000 seatbelts that are from 1965. I also have 1966 seat belts but they are Irving 8000 and the buckle/latch part is different from the 5000 series. I will post some photos later.

Re: middle seat belt

62-63 had a chrome type finish to them. I think in 64 they went with a wrinkle finish paint with a similar clasp. I have a clasp that's orange with the Chevrolet Bowtie cast on it.

Re: middle seat belt

In the photo above is the bowtie cast or a decal as mentioned earlier?

It's a decal.

Re: middle seat belt

I sell the vintage flip style seat belts, the 55-57 cars use 60" belts in the back seat and 74" on the front seats. I have installed them in both 55-57 Chevy passenger cars and 60-66 trucks. I use the 74" belts on truck because of the seat height, nice length.

Re: middle seat belt

Here are the photos of the different seatbelts I have. The tan one with the rough texture is out of a 63. The black one is out of a 65 but is dated 1964 on the tag and the other tan one is a 1966. The 63 and 65 are both 5000 series though the 62 doesn't say irving on it.
