Braided transmission oil cooler lines. Good source? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Looking to change out the tranny oil cooler lines during my transmission and motor swap. Any good suggestions or sources? I will be installing a transmission cooler and running it in series with the radiator trans cooler.

If you are able & want to take on a project, you can build them yourself.

Many videos on youtube how to do it, but best ones are from Koul Tool which is a little vinyl tool that helps sets the line into AN fittings.

I made lines for my truck for the forst time last winter and none leaked surprisingly enough!

So if I can do it I'm sure anyone can!! :-)

Thanks for the input guys. I will check out the video. I have never really dealt with fittings or building lines. May be fun to learn how. LOL. All the fitting sizes and types always seemed overwhelming.

So what size or type of AN fittings would be needed? Line runs from the transmission into the radiator, out of the radiator, into the aux cooler, and out of the aux cooler back to the transmission.

Hi I was looking over this ??? Myself I have a 1986 c10 2wd 700r4 350 5.7 tbi. I tjink its best that I use the brsided lines save bending braking and craking worries from the traditional lines. Now that I have answerd that ??? Should have install a transmission cooler also. I hear you guys talking about them but I never had one. Is my setup ok without it, or am I at risk of burning up my 700r4

Ok so I did a little online search and found a company (jegs) that offers a braided line for the 700r4. They offer a ket that runs braided lines to a 18 or 20 inch jegs trans cooler and back to the trans. Braided lines and 20 cooler all for right under $250. I would like to get some information form you guys before I buy and install this set up

AN lines are always hard to figure out so remember this little trick and no more worries.
Each number is about 1/16 inch.

-4 AN would be 4/16 or 1/4 inch hose

-6 AN would be 6/16 or 3/8 hose

-8 AN would be 8/16 or 1/2 inch hose

-16 AN would be 16/16 or 1 inch hose.

-24 AN would be 24/16 or 1.5 inch hose.

There are places online were you pick the right connector then the left connector then the type of hose you want and its length.They show you a picture of what the completed hose will look like then build it/them for you.

Thanks for the good info looks very neat. I'm a army vet so I love neat also. The question I still have is, without my 700r4 being modified with shift kit and other things, should I be worry about buying a cooler or will I be just fine running the lines right to the factory raidator ?

I would suggest going ahead and adding the second cooler if your budget allows. A nice setup with braided lines can be had for much less then the $250 you found if you just piece together it yourself. I think my setup cost around $180 and that was getting the largest cooler I could fine. It can only help control temps and especially if you pull or haul stuff it will make a big difference in the trans living a long life.

5/16 hose, I used 66", and 60". I would go 12" shorter, on each depending on routing next time. Imy happy with it though. Waiting
On radiator to get in then, I'll have a road test.

I did hydo lines from the local shop several years ago and love them.

I however did not run them to the front, I ran them under the bed and mounted a self contained B&M cooler, fan and thermostat. Cool transmission fluid leads to longer life of the transmission. I believe (and I could be rusty) that builders recommend that transmission fluid stay at 120* for long life. Well if you are putting fluid in a 195* radiator, guess what?
