Lug nuts?

Was wondering if someone had this info in there memory banks. I have an 89 V3500 with d60 front. We will assume the that the wheel studs are original. I bought a set of 2004 8 lug takeoffs with center caps to go on it. what size lug nuts inner and outer thread do i need to find to make this work? Guy at parts counter at the local chevy dealer says that his computer doesn't show anything, so that truck must not have ever existed. i'm hoping none of you work there or i am in trouble.

Re: Lug nuts?

They don't make a factory lug nut that will have the external threads, in standard thread. They obviously make them in metric in 88-up. Go on evilbay and search for conversion lugnuts, you need 9/16".

No problem, I've messaged him numerous times, he warranties and stands by what he sells. He says there the same material as what the OEM would be if offered in that configuration.

Re: Lug nuts?

I got those nuts off of Ebay too and they worked the nuts. I put 89 wheels from my kids truck on mine and needed them. Had to cut the center out of the 2 front hub covers though to get to the hub locks. Pictures on here someplace, but don't know where. jim

yeah you are actually the person i got the idea from. i saw a photo of your truck and thought it was a great idea. I like the newer steel wheels over putting alloys, or aftermarket wheels on. I have the painted ones and i am trying to decide if i want to leave them the light silver they a;ready are (and less work for me) or paint them a dark pewter like what is on my truck now, or black. Still not sure which way i am gonna go yet other than they are going on soon.

Re: Lug nuts?

Ok so was checking things out last night and my freind, disappointment showed up. My truck as d60 front axels. I knew to make the center caps work i would have to whole saw the front center caps to allow them to pass through. Due to the diameter of the d60 hub i will probably have to remove too much of the center cap for it to work. It is around 4.5 inches and that is as big as the narrowest face section of the center cap. I gt a good deal on them and if i cant use them they will be wasted anyway so that being the case i am going to drill thiem and see how it comes out. I am pretty sure it will look junky. If it doesnt work then i am painting the wheels black and using chrome acorn style lug nuts with hopefully a chrome low pro center cap on the rear wheels to mirror or simulate the protrusion of the hubs on the front. Wish i would of figured this out before i bought 40 dollars of dual thread lug nuts that i probably wont use with the new plan. I guess this is the whole trial and error / live and learn thing. I am just putting info out to maybe save someone else the same mistake.

Re: Lug nuts?

Bojak, when I cut ( 3.5" hole saw ) mine it removed a slug just bigger than the emblem in the center of the cap leaving just under 1/8" all way round. I just went out in the garage and measured mine. 4.5" will (or should) leave you about 1/4 to 3/8" before you run into the scallops for the lug nuts. If the bolt circle is the same as other 16" wheels I think it will look just fine. jim

What front axels are you running? Mine measure at 4 3/8 at outside edge but it does have some taper to the hub so i used "kentucky windage" and feel that 4.5 is the right hole to drill. I'm gonna do it but have my doubts about it looking as good as yours. I will post some picks when done, i picked up the 4.5 hole saw earlier so we will see.

Re: Lug nuts?

I know you have GMT-800 wheels, but have you thought about these caps? I had an '07 with the wheels you bought, I did not care for the grooves in them, the ones that run longitudinally.

Re: Lug nuts?

P.S. The emblem is 3.5" diameter on those caps, and to use them on the newer alloys you have to use the black lug caps from the newer alloys.

These are the rims and center caps i got. This is another guy on here's truck that i got the idea from. My hurdle is the diameter of the hub on the D60. I am drilling them tonight so i will know soon enough. I hope it looks good enough to go. I really like the "it's stock, it's not" look. Little things like these wheels, all black interior parts like newer vehicles (no chromed plastic), black side molding off of 2000 style gm trucks, 2.5 inch lift. Stock but not.

Re: Lug nuts?

Here is photo of the new wheels i am going to put on. Question is should i run them how they are in light silver, or repaint them the darker pewter color that is on the older wheels? Or go black?
