I got this one and plan on installing it once it warms up. I like it bacause it was cheap, close to the right width, and no head rests so when reupolstered is should look good.

Re: 1950 Chevy truck- types of Bench seats
That should fit pretty nicely but unless the truck is chopped I'd vote for having the stock redone by someone who knows what he is doing. Over the past 40 years I've probably had ten different seats in my 48 since I chopped it an nothing was as comfortable as the stock seat that Bobby Russel in Waco redid for me the week before the Street Rod Nationals in Tulsa in 1973. With that seat I could jump in the truck an make a 400 mile road trip and feel ready for more. The seat I have in it now looks nice in the truck and fits great but is more uncomfortable than sitting on a sheet of plywood.
Note: Any seat you use in these trucks has to have a very thin and upright lean back unless you are very short and thin yourself. The problem with most late model seats is that they leave no room in the cab of AD trucks when they are in the truck. The mini van seats usually have rather thin and upright backs and have bases that are fairly easy to modify to fit our trucks.

Re: 1950 Chevy truck- types of Bench seats
Here's a picture of my early 90s Chevy full size truck bench seat. It fits perfect. It's pretty comfortable. I just threw a Mexican blanket over it for now. But my bud Cato Custom Upholstery is recovering it for me.
I wanted to keep the factory seat surround. So I cut 2"-3" out of the horizontal pieces and welded them back together. That was it fit down inside perfect. You sit lower down in the cab than the stock seat but its so much better. More leg room etc. [IMG][/IMG] Posted via Mobile Device

No, have one in my 49, its close to the doors, but doesnt hit. More comfort, more leg room, its adjustable back and forth for different sized drivers. Cheap from the junkyard to.

Re: 1950 Chevy truck- types of Bench seats
even though this seat is in a '55 i'm showing it so you'll see the style.. It's a Wiseguys seat and fit a mounted nice... i'm sure they make one for an early '50's truck

Re: 1950 Chevy truck- types of Bench seats
Sure thing. I just picked up a welder so once I get some time to get the metal for the brackets I'll get started. This endless winter has slowed me down a bit.

Re: 1950 Chevy truck- types of Bench seats
Here is my stock '50 seat that was professionally rebuilt and covered.
Original seats can look good and fit right in without any mods. |

Re: 1950 Chevy truck- types of Bench seats
The stock seats look nice when recovered.. but man do they take up the space! I'm 5'11" tall and pretty small at 170lbs and with a stock seat and stock steering wheel these trucks feel tiny inside.
My vote is for a early 90's chevy full size seat. The mounting brackets sit nice and flat on the floor (factory seat riser removed) they have a nice skinny back so it can be slid back for lots of leg room. Even with a 2" chop top its comfortable to sit height wise, if ya want more space the side mounts are extremely easy to shorten up to 3-4" Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1950 Chevy truck- types of Bench seats
I love the look of this seat and I really want one that has a fold down armrest in the middle but the price of this seat is over $2000. Anyone know of a standard seat that is similar that a guy could buy to put in a 1950 Chevy 3100? Thanks

The idea is with the foam instead of coil springs the shape of the finished seat would only be limited by imagination! and on an AD truck it would just drop into the original mount. Never mind me I get these ideas from time to time |
