Bed weight?

Anyone know how much a short step bed (55-66) weighs? I am trying to figure out the best way to pull it off so I can relocate the gas tank. Might call friends or just buy a shop crane. Harbor Freight has a 1 ton on sale for $100. The local tool place rents them for $60 a day - ouch!!! Suggestions?

Re: Bed weight?

Cool. Thanks. Seems like it would be more cost effective to spend the $100 on a new one than to rent one. Just didn't want to buy one if it wouldn't lift it safely. I appreciate your input.

Re: Bed weight?

Here we have not only Hooters, but a similar venue named Twin Peaks, although I'm not entirely sure why they they chose THAT name...

Re: Bed weight?

4 ratchet straps hooked to eye bolts inside the bed and you can lift it yourself.

Re: Bed weight?

Without a tailgate or bed floor it's an easy two man job. With wood floor I still wouldn't hesitate. Just a wild guess, but I'd say it was only around 200 pounds. My father in law helped me put mine on the frame recently and he's got gimpy hands. Honestly the hoist will do it, but it's awkward...just find a friend who needs a beer. Now the cab, well that's a different story!

I've moved mine with two, but it has no floor in it. I've also rolled mine off the back onto its end to modify the cross bracing to fit the new frame by myself. Got it back on by myself, too.
