OK another annoying turn signal question
Since I have not "seen" a factory type turn signal set up. I want someone to tell me if this looks "right". Do I still need a canceling plate?

Re: OK another annoying turn signal question
I bought a repro turn signal housing and switch from classic parts, it does require the canceler as a separate item. But mine doesn't cancel well, I have to center the lever by hand anyway.

Re: OK another annoying turn signal question
The cancelling cam will actuate the little cams located at roughly 6:00 and 12:00. I have factory parts and I spent a fair amount of time dealing with how poorly they canceled until I finally extended the tab that hangs down from the wheel slightly. Now they work great.

Re: OK another annoying turn signal question
OK thanks, I don't really see a tab on my steering wheel that would activate the cam. I do have the plunger switch for the horn, but it appears to align with the brass collar on the outside of the steering tube in the picture I posted.

Re: OK another annoying turn signal question
So, would the canceling cam that is usually found in the "Help" parts of auto parts store be the one I should look for?
Thanks for replies. |

Re: OK another annoying turn signal question
Not for a stock '50s switch. The tab should be attached to the bottom of the wheel with screws. If you didn't have turn signals then you probably don't have the tab.
Here's the car version. The trucks may be the same but I've never compared them. |

Re: OK another annoying turn signal question
I did a google image search for "57 chevy turn signal cancel cam." There were multiple sites showing the image including a current auction at the Evil Empire. That image is at impalas.com.

Re: OK another annoying turn signal question
I have a complete turn signal switch and bowl and cancelling cam off of my 58. I saved all that when I changed the steering column. Just let me know and I will send them.

Re: OK another annoying turn signal question
Hi Nordic, Thanks for the offer. Would you consider taking a picture of the cancelling cam and posting it? I found a two different types on Rock Auto. One has "Plastic flippers" the other does not have the plastic flippers. They list two different part numbers, of course. I need to know if the cancelling cams are different.
I can see where the cam would bolt to the underneath of the steering wheel. Just need to figure out what the cam shape is. Also saw some on Danchuck's site. |
