Wiring Questions - URGENT!
Hello All, I am in the midst of rewiring the whole truck and I have a couple of questions. I am using the original style (no fusebox) harnesses as provided by Classic Parts. I need to wrap it up asap as I have a buyer flying in at the end of the week.
Question 1 - Regarding the high beam switch (aka the dimmer switch), there are three connectors that go to this switch. The connectors are indivdual on the harness and do not terminiate in a "T" style terminal housing like original. So I dont know which connector goes to each of the three terminals on the switch. Can someone please let me know which goes to which? Question 2 - Same kind of question, but this involves the horn relay. There are three wires coming off the harness that go to the horn relay. One is a light brown wire (frm horn button), one is red (hot from ammeter) and the other is black (goes to horn itself). The issue is I dont know to which terminal in the horn relay itself I need to make the connections for each of the three wires. THere are no labels on the horn relay. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I do have a wiring diagram but the print is so small I cant make out the letters on the relay drawing. Thanks alot, Mark |

I would be calling the seller for the harness. Maybe they can email you and easier to read schematic.

Re: Wiring Questions - URGENT!
2 minutes with a multimeter would show you how to hook them both up.
dimmers sw: 12+, high beam, low beam. find the common for 12+ from headlight sw, the other 2 won't matter. horn relay: check continuity. the no continuity post is your horn, the other 2 are 12+ and horn button, you will have to experiment to see which one hooks up. to remove you old wires from the plugs: insert a tiny screw driver to unlatch the tab and insert your new terminals. those are packard 56 terminals.

Re: Wiring Questions - URGENT!
Good Advise Ogre.
A multi meter will show you which terminal is the one that goes to the head light switch. It's the one that has continuity with both of the other terminals one at a time. The high and low beam terminals won't have continuity with each other no matter what way the switch is set. You high beam wire should be the one that has the wire for the indicator light connected into it.

Re: Wiring Questions - URGENT!
THanks for the very helpful answers. I assume if I screw up the wiring to either the horn relay or the dimmer switch, I will know about it once I hook the battery back up and try. Can my electrical system be damaged in any way if i mess up the connections? Anything I can expect to see if I DID mess up the connections?
THanks, Mark |

once you let the smoke out of the wires it's hard to get back in. on the 2 items mentioned? not really, it won't work but it shouldn't let the smoke out.
