School me on the Porterbuilt drop members.
I'm new to this low and shiny stuff, what are the benefits to the Porterbuilt stuff? What does each style get u and what are the heights

Welcome to the forum!
Some of the main benefits to the dropmembers is being able to get lower since everything is tucked up higher. You will also get rack & pinion steering, wheels moved forward 1" and a narrowed track width.... as well as overall better suspension geometry. Did I mention they look cool and get you to lay frame! lol The Mild crossmember is raised 1" higher over factory, the touring is raised 2" and the extreme is raised 3" higher. Which one to go with all depends on size if tires you are wanting to run and how low you want to go. Some guys will go with the Mild being they don't want to quite lay frame, but want all the other benefits of the dropmember. Where the guys wanting to lay frame and have a really low ride height will go with the extreme setup. I believe I covered the main points here, but feel free to call and can go over in further detail. Can also determine what your plans are for the truck and which one might work best for you. Thanks guy's. I'm trying to buy a 68 chevy swb if the guy can find the title. I plan on a 19" CCW SP500 wheel. Just looking to get it low and still ride great. I've had enough of the lowerd F-body thing, you know rides like a floor jack handles like a shifter cart. I'm a truck guy at heart and just ready for something different.

The Dropmember is a proven design, not saying there aren't options, but for me there aren't. To see guys like Dino run it for years and continue to run them says a lot.

If you want it lowered good the mid dropmember is prefect the extreme one is good if you want the truck to lay frame.The rack and pinion it uses is a easy off the shelf part a 79-93 mustang.They center the front wheels in the wheel openings which looks better and gives you more room to ride low with big wheels.

What is the maximum ride height on the extreme? We have some pretty sh!ty railroad crossings around hear.

You can lift up for the rough roads, but doing so will require more air pressure and make for a stiffer ride. I would maybe suggest the touring in this case, which still can lay frame depending on the height of tires.
I am not sure on the exact measurement of the ride height on a extreme, as the tire diameter (and drop spindle) also plays a role in this.... but it is low! |
