1968 Dually questions please help
I bought a 1968 c30 Dually with drum brakes all the way around it has 16" split rims on the back I bought newer style 16" rims and they won't fit over the drum in the rear and I want to change the front to disc also. Mi have the chance to buy an 1982 stake body for cheap can I switch everything over in the front to get disc brakes and hydro boost set up will it all fit and I would like to switch the complete rear so these will fit does anyone if it will work before I buy this other truck thanx

Re: 1968 Dually questions please help
Im doing a dually swap on a 72. Was told the 80s model stuff would fit. Not sure if you would have to swap the whole front crossmember or just control arms and spindles....

Re: 1968 Dually questions please help
My understanding is that the front suspension complete cross member is pretty much a drop in. I'm getting ready to do a whole cross member swap in my 69 C30. I understand a couple holes need to be clearanced to make it work but that's about it. 73-87 parts are cheap and easy to find as well. The tie rods, pitman and idler are the same 1/2 ton through 1 ton so those parts are super easy to find. I found a complete early 88 (87 style) front cross member complete with new ball joints, shafts and brakes for 300 bucks. I couldn't buy the parts for that price. The heavy stabilizer bar is a bolt in too. You'll have to check spring perch width on the back. I don't think they are the same. It's not that difficult to change spring perches. Just a little welding. My C30 already has a 14 bolt in it.

if it's an 11000lbs axle it will be marked on the SPID, also you should have a rear axle at ground GVWR of 11k on the plate on the driver's door pillar.
There are some differences between the housings also so you could tell, if I remember right, but I'd have to go look at my shop manual

Re: 1968 Dually questions please help
The 11,000# axle is 10-lug. It's a larger truck axle. I've never seen Budd wheels with smaller holes than GM hubs. I've seen Budds off other makes have larger holes, though. I bought chrome Budds for a '70 C/30 that had the same rear this truck should have. I never gave it a thought, they never asked anything before ordering, not even sure I told them what brand of truck I had, just bolted them on
