Sand blasting pot metal?

Would like to de-chrome some parts on my truck and was wondering if sandblasting would be too vigorouse for these parts or not? Does anyone have experience with this? Parts for example would be window cranks, exterior door handles. if sandblasting is too rough what would be a recommended way to de-chrome these parts?

You can cleanup aluminum and pot metal real nice w/ glass beads at 20-40 psi. I just finished a fan spacer and it still has old look patina, clean and has a satin sheen. Start low psi and far away and get closer and raise psi as required.

Chrome plating is very difficult to blast through even w/ alox at high psi. There may be hope; if you hold gun at sharp angle and chrome bond is tired it may peel w/ help of media.

How do I get paint off of Chrome ?

I put 1970 Mustang taillights into the rear steps of my truck.When I went to have the bezels powder painted they sandblasted them and ruined both of them.It cost me almost $250 to replace them.
Forget about using sand.

Lacquer thinner is a good starting point for getting paint off chrome.

There are many ways to get paint off chrome; strippers, razor, steel wool, mild blasting media, etc.
The chrome may have been scuffed to promote paint adhesion; won't know till take a little paint off.

They offered me more powder painting for the ruined parts but by then most everything was already done.
The three slots in the bezels were all distorted and the pot metal had small voids in it as well.

I discoved the hard way that oven cleaner + heat = no more chrome. So when cleaning your oven, don't spray down those chrome catch pans under the burner eye and toss them in the oven for good measure. Just say'n.
