Swapping ac compressors. R4 to HT6. Wiring help needed

Getting ready to install my serpentine bracket setup from a 96 Chevy. Was hoping i could get some info on wiring up the new HT6 compressor. Both use a 2 wire connector just curious which goes where. I also have to wire in to the 12V wire that kicks the clutch on for my electric fan harness. Anybody made this swap and have some info? Thanks!

i did this conversion and what i can figure is the high cutoff from the ht6 and the low cutoff from the r4 are wired in series. I am in school for auto/diesel and i am trying to track down my hvac instructor to verify this.

Re: Swapping ac compressors. R4 to HT6. Wiring help needed

I took a shot on wiring it up. Only two wires (ground and hot). The ground runs straight to the alternator. The other wire is what tapped for the electric fan cut on. Hopefully I don't have the plugs reversed on the ht6 compressor plug. Should know in a couple of weeks when I get the motor fired up.

are you talking about the compressor cutoff switches or the fan switch? if it's the fan switch, on my 85 I tapped the low pressure switch wire to a relay. then relay to fan. the pressure switch on the back off the ht6 is what I was referring to in the last post which the r4 did not have.

I am running electric fans and need them to cut on when I kick on the ac. Everybody I have talked to said to not worry about the high pressure switch on the back so I am going without. Running the electric fan off the clutch switch on the ht6.

then tap your low pressure switch wire, I forget which one but the one that gets power when you switch on the ac, then that to a relay that gets energized from the low relay tap then bat into relay and then to fan power wire.
about the high pressure switch, I have ruined 4 compressors without one. the next time I replace the compressor I'm using the high pressure switch in it. May not do anything but at least I'll have one. I can't figure out why I break compressors but I think that is why.

Re: Swapping ac compressors. R4 to HT6. Wiring help needed

I think thats what i have done. I am using a kit from painless wiring for the electric fans. The new compressor only has one conncetion. A 2 wire plug that i believe engages the clutch when the air is kicked on. I just took the 2 wires from the R4 pluge and spliced them into the correct connector for the HT6 compressor. I am just hoping i got them right. I know which is ground and hot but not sure where they go on the new connector. I think its right but we shall see.

Hopefully its something else that is messing up the compressor though. Everybody i have talked have had zero issues with ditching the high pressure switch on the back. Has me concerned now.

Re: Swapping ac compressors. R4 to HT6. Wiring help needed

what are you putting this in? and how is it going to cycle?
I had the compressor working for about a month really good and then it would just lock up on me. the stock low pressure switch would cycle the comp.
the coil wiring does not matter. just have one pos and one neg.

Re: Swapping ac compressors. R4 to HT6. Wiring help needed

Its going in an 87 R10 pickup. I guess i am confused. Everything i had read was just to hook up the coil switch and go. Nobody mentioned anything about anything else being needed. I have really just been running off of other peoples suggestions on how they hooked the compressor up.

you have to have a cycling switch. that's where the coil wires go from the comp. it's going to be on the accumulator on our trucks. but the ht6 comp has a low and a hi.

Found this thread and bumped it to the top. Looks like they did exactly what you were talking about. I need to try and figure out how this needs to be done and implemented on my setup. I seem to be getting more confused rather than gaining clarity. LOL
