72 dana44 seal parts hard to find?
I just tore down my 72 K20 front diff now I'm trying to replace the spindle slinger seals and axel slingers along with the ujoints and every other wear part on it (ball joints tie rods etc.). My local NAPA has no parts listed so I brought in my spindles and even with the CR seal number they were not able to cross ref a replacement. Anyone have a suggestion for a parts source for these parts? I was hoping to put my axle back together this weekend. Please help!

Re: 72 dana44 seal parts hard to find?
Sorry not much help, but I rebuilt a dana 44 SAS recently and was able to get all the bearings, shims, seals, ring, pinion, etc. For third member parts randy's ring & pinion is a good place to start. Pirate4x4 crew may know something.

72 Dana 44 should be a standard open knuckle. I think you can get all the parts through Napa.

You might give them a shot. Its also a good place to grab alternate part numbers. I did my D44 on my 72 a little while ago, and I don't seem to remember having any issue with spindle seals, but I ended up using National vs. Chicago Rawhyde.

That should be easy everyday stuff. I wonder why they can't find it?

Re: 72 dana44 seal parts hard to find?
I rebuilt my axle about a month ago and couldnt find those seals either, I used this kit
http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...BK1_0121716969 It seems dana changed to this type of seal in 73(?), give that a try.

Re: 72 dana44 seal parts hard to find?
Go to napa and pull the big book that lists all the seal and bearing parts. I'm pretty sure they are all in there for all years. Some of the parts in the book don't pop up on their screen.

Re: 72 dana44 seal parts hard to find?
The counter guy did show me a kit for 73 and newer! But the slinger ID was larger than mine. My original seal number didn't show up in the big seal book so we measured the existing seal and ordered new seals with the same dimensions. I will be putting everything back together tonight if my new seals fit up correctly! I can't wait to experience the new (1972) truck feel with all new parts in my front axle, brakes, bearings, ball joints, tie rod ends and 1976 power steering box!
